couldn't find one of these with searchbar and im also kind of curious how many members actually work in shops.

got a couple to start with

You know you work at a ski shop when:

Your clothes are absolutely covered in wax and you have to explain this often

You're astoundingly poor but rock a 1000 dollar ski setup

You tell girls you will tune their stuff for free and tell guys to fuck off you're busy.

You're skis are covered in weird obscure stickers no one understands

You hate certain brands because they generate a lot of trash (im looking at you Giro)

You dig through trash to find more forgotten stickers

You ski around your local hill and constantly recognize skis that you setup or tuned

when you have measured that little girls feet 3 times, taken the liner out of the boot and show the parent that the boot fits by pressing the liner against there foot and they still ask to speak to your manager for getting a wrong fitting boot

"Oh well Tommy needs a size 13 Boot, hes really been growing alot the past year." Meanwhile you have Tommys foot on the scale and hes barely reading a 28.0. THEN once you try to break down the conversion and explain to the wild fucking parents they  only need a size 10 you would think you have just told them there kid has AIDS they way they sometimes react... Anyone who is a bootfitter knows the pain....

around 5th grade for me. talent shows went crazy with that shit.

and thanks to whoever said when to drop off a resume, taking at least the fall semester off and would much rather work in a field of interest than where im at.

How's about the people that bring in multiple pairs of socks just to be cheap, get the wrong boot, and say that everything is way too small. But then come back in a month later and say they were sold boots way too big for them... Makes me rage

This applies more to the good old days before precision stone grinders:

You have so much skin missing from your hands from flat filing that you just live with your fingers taped up. Also, you have so many file shavings embedded in what's left of your skin that your hands set off the metal detector at the airport.

You have many small contact burns on various parts of your body from p-tex and/or bumping into the iron while hot waxing that you have to convince people that you are not being abused or tortured.

Your erotic dreams involve drilling the perfect hole with the a brand new jig, and you wake up and realize that you have been muttering "God I want to mount those", in your sleep.

You're getting your car detailed and you break out the Swix and Toko charts to make sure the guys are using the right color wax for the current conditions.

Your best friend tells you that he and his wife just had twins and you offer to center mount them for free.

i dunno bout you man, but for me it was.

when your bros get to come in and eat dinner with you while you tune up shit.

smelling like wax for days on end... (kinda already said that)

always having a fresh coat of wax on your boards. i get way too lazy to do it at home.

-when your boot liners are covered in cleverly shaped adhesive foam pieces as you are fully aware to the benefits of proper boot fitting .

I work in one of the gaperest ski shops possible

"I want the best goggles you have" *show customer some splices and I/Os* "I kinda wanted a glass lens, not this cheap plastic"

"MA'AM THESE BOOTS ARE 3 SIZES TOO BIG FOR YOUR CHILD, HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SKI" "I am going to choose to not listen to you and buy them anyway"

*customer looks at rack of 200+ pairs of skis* "Are these all the skis you have?"

as I fit boots for this women her husband says "now remember boy, you want ski boots to fit tight" "OH THANKS MAN FOR TELLING ME THAT CUZ EVEN THOUGH I WORK HERE I TOTALLY DIDNT KNOW THAT"

"could I please talk to your department expert, I want expert advice on these ski socks"

And the classic:
"Hey are you the shop tech?" "yes" "I need my family of four's skis tuned and mounted" "well it is christmas break, and were busy, so you can come pick them up in a week" "but im going to colarado tomorrrooowwww.....!!!!"

It's exactly like that... Same as when you think that girl's a solid 7, but she drives a lifted Jeep with a Bambi bar and a snorkel kit (you know she puts out becuase of this) so that ups her to at least an 8.72347. Then I say "oh girl you like Mike N Ikes? can I get your number... huh? Can I get it?"

Also, you know you work in a ski shop when you have to time to write shit like this all day long in the summer... Ehh

bootfitting is its own hell all to itself. You can either sell boots and make people happy momentarily or you can occasionally get someone in the correct boot and have them come back and thank you...never both. And people coming in with a set idea of what boot they want without trying anything on, just boggles my mind.

Man I hate those know it all fucks that were ski bums in like 1974 and still try to tell you how everything should be even though they don't have a clue anymore. I don't even work in a shop and that pisses me off, it must drive you guys nuts!

... was not finished. working at the only shop in dc having to fit the most obnoxious spoiled kids with our shitty rental equipment . the the complain about how its not the color they like.... or the suburban housewives (enough said)... a personal favorite of mine is the old guy ski instructor who thinks he knows everything and demands to speak to an older employee nd have him calibrate his bindings because he does not trust a teenager doing it.... and finally the cuts all over your hands from catching a ski as it falls off the bench and cuttong your hnd on the edge.
