bars if you can go....soooo many fucking people go out at night in the city all nights of the week its pretty sick. Its a lot of money be prepared to drop a shit load of money. Subways are going to be atleast like 7 bucks for the night. Clubs are pretty fun if thats your scene some good ones. Strip clubs are always a good time. I usually stick to bars ask around theres so many good bars to go to. If your not 21 and dont have a good fake id there isnt really much to do in the city

I'm over 21. Any recommendations on clubs? Other things to do other than the traditional tourist shiz? Anyone been to the Bronx zoo?

yeah central park is nice. i dunno, haven't been to the bars as i turned 21 in may, but next time im home i might go down, heard many stories. never eaten at 53rd and 6th but ive also heard good things

chicken n rice, ill find the street but there is this one stand that is 1000000x better then the others, there is always a long ass line like a legit 45 min wait but it is soo worth it

I've found that a lot of the shacks/stands have better food then going out, but that's just me.

if you're into electronic and dance music pacha is usually a good time. you're bound to see stereotypical long island/jersey people but everyone is cool.  i haven't spent much time in the city since turning 21 so idk any great spots really but you could always check out travel websites or somethin and look for reviews of restaurants and everything.  there's so many things to do it's hard to recommend

Fuck Serendipity. There food is shit, I asked for American cheese and they said they don't carry it. How can you sell burgers and not carry American? The desserts are okay. If you want really good desserts go to Max Brenners it's one block from Union Square.


If you have the money I would go see a broadway show or any of the other touristy stuff. A cool park to check out is the Highline Park downtown. It is a park on abandoned elevated train tracks.

if you want some good fucking food go to Rosa Mexicano. Really tight bar, tons of girls, and really good guacamole. Its near lincoln center.

my bad on the dub post but also check out upper west side. There alot of cool stores and places to eat. right on the piers too so its nice to walk around.

If you want to do some touristy shit go down to the Brooklyn Bridge. You can walk across it hang out in DUMBO, there are some good bars and food (PIZZA) there, then walk or take a subway back over to Manhattan. I would walk through Times Square once just to check it off the list but the place is a shit show and I avoid it at all times. Central Park is the shit. I go there once a week usually and just walk around. Definitely check out the High Line. Check out Grand Central Station and the ESB.
If you want fancy shopping 5th Ave in the 50's is your spot. "cool" shopping is in Soho on Broadway and the side streets but it gets super busy on the weekends.
At night if your into bars/lounges/live music the Village and the Lower East Side is the place. I spend most nights on the LES. Hells Kitchen area is cool too. Meatpacking District is a mix of bars, beer gardens and clubs. Some are a little high class.
For food there are obviously thousands of choices. Just don’t eat anywhere that you can eat in another city. (Fridays etc…) There is so much good food here. Even the street carts are Zagat rated.

Don’t mind the grit and grime though. Its still NYC.

If you want good day time drinking check out "The Frying Pan." Its an old boat docked at Chelsea Piers that is turned into a huge bar. It gets crowded but they serve buckets of Corona's and you can wear beach clothes if you want.

Dont do long shit. Try to fit in as many small things as possible. For example, dont commit to going to ellis island, it will take all day, just go to battery park and look at it as well as the statue of liberty.

I just was there 2 nights ago. It was hot as hell, and with all the pavement and buildings reflecting heat it felt like 110 degrees downtown. There are black garbage bags EVERYWHERE and it really starts to smell when the sun comes out. Despite that, the city is overwhelmingly huge and there is so much to do. I was only there a day, so I did the big tourist things like everybody here has mentioned. Just take a train to Times Square from wherever you are staying, and you can do a ton of sweet stuff from there. Central Park isn't far which is pretty awesome. Hit up a street stand or two, buy something in Times Square just for the hell of it (I got some Sanuks at the Billabong store that I refuse to take off my feet). Eat at one of the big restaurants in Times Square at night if you want a crazy light show with dinner. See the Empire State building at night, get drunk off of awesome Brooklyn Brewery beers in the bar at the base of the ESB, kick a pigeon, take the NBC tour, then end it by catching a train back from Central Station. Can't go wrong with the tourist stuff if you are only there for a few days

Baller lifestyle: Stay at the Standard, be ready to spend a grand each night, and have the concierge reserve tables for you at klubz.

Hipster (read:poor) lifestyle: Stay at some funky hotel like the Gershwin hotel, and wander around a neighborhood.  Local bars are fun as hell.  Also, if you're dudes, you can get free drinks at a bunch of clubs in Chelsea if you're willing to let other dudes hit on you.  So there's that.
