Verizon drops unlimited data plans.

or switch to sprint instead because its way cheaper and it is unlimited. i guess it depends on where you live but they have pretty good coverage

They need to get family data plans going.  Me and my fam don't want to upgrade to the shitty phones but all the good ones you need a data plan which just isn't feasible for us.  Is it worth it to switch to a different carrier?

but also note that if you already have unlimited data you will have it for life as long as you dont leave verizon, so you can keep your smartphone and upgrade whenever you can, and dont have to change your plan.

so i am actually pretty stoked that i do not have to pay this outragous amount for data.

here are the prices for those to lazy to look it up:

“New smartphone customers will choose from one of four options: $10 for 75 MB per month, $30 for 2 GB, $50 for 5 GB or $80 for 10 GB. There will be an overage charge of $10 per GB of data.”

^depends on what you're paying now and what you expect to get for how much. i work for sprint, you should look into your options.



but like the article said, in a year data usage has doubled, and it just cant be expanded by the carrier at that rate...another reason to switch to sprint because with their network its less of a problem

no they just made it 20 months instead of 13.

i am quite frustrated with this because it is basically like taking them away, because there is only a 4 month difference.

Why the fuck would anyone get verizon at these rates. They are going to discourage so many people from going with them as opposed to sprint or t mobile and im sure many otheres where you can get unlimited everything for around 80 bucks.

they did that, but not for all customers.


and to answer the above question, no you cant just overcharge 2gb for $20, you pay by the kb if you aren't on a data plan but use data.



and someone said before "well atleast i already have unlimited", when ever you change your phone, whether its using an upgrade to re-sign a contract or just using an old phone or something you bought off the internet, because you're making the device change, they can change your plan, since you signed the contract for that device. so next time you change, bye-bye unlimited data for $30

t-mobile is almost as bad. after 2gb they cut your bandwidth to basically nothing. i mean, atleast you can still get online but it'll take forever.




not trying to take over the thread, but lots of things people read/see really aren't what they seem, but thats with anything in life not just cell phones

weird normally they dont offer that. ive heard of grandfathering in plans, like if you're on a basic phone plan from 6 years ago and upgrading to another basic phone then your plan wont change. but i guess that might be what this is, smart phone to smart phone. i bet they will change that "for life" rule at some point though. but $30 for any amount of data is still more expensive then any other carrier

Me too! I hate Verizon though, especially now, I only switched to it since I figured it was the lesser of two evils (vs. ATT) and Sprint doesn't have reception at my college.

2 questions

how many of you actually use more than 2gb a month?

Also I'm looking to take my mom's upgrade to get an iphone (we have verizon, i'm not eligible for upgrade). She doesn't have a data plan because her phone is a pos. Will I still be able to get the unlimited for $30, or will I get the new 2gb for 30?

if you are serious about doing this, you should call right away and add the unlimited data to your account, because when its gone, its gone. i think someone said today is the last day?
anyway, even if you dont get the new phone right away you will still be set on the data.
but then you can get the iphone on your moms upgrade, and just switch it over to your line once you get it.

the article said that 96% of smart phone users didnt use 2gb, but it depends on what you're doing. just dont watch any videos




and if you and your mom aren't on the same account i dont know if you can steal her upgrade with verizon. but if you are and just on separate plans, using her upgrade changes her plan and extends her contract. so if verizon lets you change plans whenever then she'll be fine, if not she'll be stuck on that plan. if you had unlimited data in the past, it seems that you'll be fine, that is is your mom isnt stuck on the data plan too, in which case you might as well change it to family instead of 2 individual

Last time I looked, I think I used 6.7 gb last month. But I stream TV, download files, surf, and wifi tether alot.

If you upgrade and sign before tomorrow, yes, you will get unlimited.

i have a friend who tired to do this and when he called they said he couldnt because he has a feauture phone not a smartphone on the account. so just a little heads up,

and to the other question i think the op asked,

during school i was using about 1/2 gb a day! obviously my grades refleected it because i was surfing this site in almost every class.

the only reason u would ever need more than 2gb would be if your tethering your phone as a hotspot. yay for using iphone without any data!

it doesnt have to be a smart phone, just any phone that can use data.. which i am pretty sure is any phone? data includes downloading apps and shit, like get it now/media center

ive got 3G monitor or something like that installed on my phone. out of personal interest not because im limited.

and even one month i tethered, (pirate FTW) and listened to a shit ton of pandora, and i still didnt break 2gb. not saying people cant do it, just that for your "average" user youre not gonna come even close. IMO
