RC helicopter with Canon T3i with 22mm f2.8 lens

some test footage over the humber river in toronto with a rc helicopter my brother and i are developing. hoping to be filming skiing this winter. Newbie with cameras so any feedback would be appreciated. Shooting 720p @ 60fps

that looked really sick for a text. more practice with following a subject and smooth panning will make your footage look so dope.

thanks. Iam finding it really hard to get smooth shots. Big helicopter that can lift a 5d so its intimidating. My brother has a live down link from the camera on a monitor with control of the pan and tilt. Couple pics of the helicopter.

Have fun developing it some more. And then think about starting a business. I mean - it's for sure a gap in the market. How many ski crews would love to pay let's say 200 bucks for a couple hours professional shooting from a bird's eye perspective? People are already getting sick and tired of POV perspectives and mediocre fisheye shots from helmet cameras. I bet you can make tons of money with your RC in the winter (summer as well, obviously). I wanna eventually get a mini helicopter for a gopro sometime, shouts would be rad. I don't trust my dslr in anything but my hands, there is no way i could put it into a RC heli.

hey! your right, it is an excellent idea and its got 2. 1 gyro for the pan axis and one for the tilt.. Next up grade will be a 3 axis pan and tilt to take out the roll.

and sorry guys like i said i am a huge newbie with cameras.. its a 20mm f2.8

thanks for the feedback, ill try to keep you guys posted on progress.

and my friend is gonna shoot those rapids today in a $20 pool raft.. gonna film it with the chopper

ah, i should have figured it was already done lol but eliminating the roll would help for sure. don't know what a 3 axis pan is but im sure itl help lol. sweet rig regardless, put it into business, meet ski movie people and stars, make money, profit. (or hopefully just come out even lol)

Good old RC Helicopter mounts and Gyros. Looks like quite a nice set up there. Carbon Fibre? I have a go pro set up with a small RC that set me back $200. That rig looks like a god 1.5 Grand.

hey total investment so far has been around $8000 plus about 6 months of tinkering and maybe 5 years rc heli flying exp. to turn it into a viable company would need another significant cash injection!

Is that an electric chopper or a nitro chopper, because most of the time choppers that size run on nitro. A guy I new had a nitro chopper that held HVX's and stuff. I believe he made a few documentary's with it.

its a brushless electric motor. batteries are 2, 6 cell lipos. motor runs 50v and usually pulls around 40amps, however the speed control is rated to 160! flight time is around 13 mins right now, but we ordered bigger blades and a stretch kit for the boom. Then we can lower the rpm which gives us more flight time with a bigger payload! Nitro engines vibrate to much and also put out alot of smoke. Gas engines are better, u can have 40 min flight time but still some vibes

. the best route for this kinda stuff is a wren turbine which is vibration-less and can lift a 45lb chopper for 45mins

If you spent your time doing some research you would find a rig like this would set you back around 2300 easy.

3 Angle Rig: $500
Helicopter: $500
Camera: $800
Base station: $500

I am developing a GoPro rig atm, but I'm finding the gyros are very erratic. Would people be interested in a rig like this? The package would include: (RIG, HELICOPTER, BASE STATION WITH CONTROLLER). Would only set you back $500 USD.

Trust me i did my research.

Your missing out a few thousands dollars worth of erroneous equipment and materials and under estimating the price of quality rc components.

Bu actually your right you could probably build a remote control helicopter with a pan and tilt and get some shots for $2300. We weren't looking to do it the cheapest way, We are trying to do it the best way within our budget!

hey,

a wren turbines cost $3700 i think and then i would say another $1000 atleast for starting equipment and various stuff associated with jet engines ha!

if this ever makes money its the first thing going in!
