Help me plan my trimester abroad.

Next year will be my Senior Year in High School. I have arranged it so that I do not have to attend school my third trimester, granted I can plan for myself a worthwhile experience. I would love to go to another country, either a Spanish speaking country or somewhere I can ski.

But, most importantly, I do not want to attend school while I am gone. Does anybody have any information at all that might help me move forward with finding a host family for 3 months or a program that will match me with a family as well as not requiring me to attend school?

I know a lot of people go abroad to Costa Rica, which I would love to do. I’d be open to South America, Spain, or Mexico for the Spanish. As far as the skiing goes, I’m open to suggestions, but I’m pretty sure the US and Canada are out of the question for obvious reasons.

A woman at my mom’s work knows somebody that owns a small Hotel in Costa Rica, and I was going to work there for room and board until that fell through. If anybody knows of a way I could get set up doing something like that and is willing to give me some info I would be very grateful.
Also, if anybody has any suggestions as to how I should spend my three months, post up, I’d love to hear them.

It also may be important for you to know that the three month span I am talking about will run approximately from mid February to mid May.
