FKS delemma

I'm about to get my skis mounted and I have a little problem. I have an older pair of FKS 155's bindings without brakes but I found a shop near me that sells just the brakes. I also found a shop a little further away that has wide FKS 140's for $ 280.

Is it worth the money to get the newer FKS's? My 155's don't have the vertical toe release and if i snap my brakes, I have to unmount my skis. Plus they're a little older but they should do the job still right? (the cups to unclip the skis are a little used and the arms are a little loose so if I hold the binding upside down the heel peice doesnt stay in place like it should)

My second question is are the new FKS brakes compatible with the old FKS bindings?

brakes are the same, 155's are better then the 140, and no matter what if you break fks brakes they are a bitch to replace, just take some time, you can get new baseplates and brakes form rossi for $40

I say get new brakes and stay with the 155's

That's probably what I'm going to end up doing. It also turns out to be a lot cheaper.

Just curious though, what makes the 155s better then the 140s? Is the only difference between them the fact that they're made of metal and the dins are higher?

the older 180's and 155's are metal and the older 120s are plastic. I don't know about the 140's though. I just assumed they were plastic because they were lower din.

Backwards... 140s have plastic, while 155s are all metal.

I'd save the money and put the 155s on, worse case senario you have to either buy new brakes or bindings anyways...

vertical toe release is safer, but all the vertical release toes that rossi/look makes are plastic. I have a pair of the old p14s on my park skis with the vertical release toepiece and they do the job for me. I wouldn't want to use them for anything other than jibby park skiing though.

i thought this was true too until I recently picked up a pair of 18 DIN FKS w/ vertical toe release, I had never seen it before though
