because they used to make games increasingly harder so that they would seem longer.

and anyways whenever i try to play halo/codmod/gears on the hardest difficulty i always find myself rage facing.

that's because old games usually had no difficulty settings, so they got harder. turn the difficulty up on games like cod and stuff and they get fucking ridiculous

yea pretty much this.

veteran on cod 4 is hard as fuck i was grounded from friends for a weekend. and it literally took me like 20ish hours to complete the whole thing
cod 5 was even worse. took me 3 hours to do the first level

Goldeneye for N64 was possibly the most influential multiplayer game ever(influential is probably abit strong) i think if it wasnt for that game, games like CODMOD4, gears of war etc would only just be startintg to come out rather than 4-5 years ago..

OMG Goldeneye...  I have an N64 JUST FOR THIS and mariokart. 

But seriously, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, aside from having the most rediculously over-the-top-frantic midi soundtrack is a fkn awesome game.  Just don't get that song stuck in your head before you drive somewhere.  You WILL get a speeding ticket.

i grew up with a sega.. yeah i was a sega kid. big whoop wanna fight about it.

i still play jam all the time.. i have the 4 player controls.. so its two on two... so much fun.. its also great for nhl 95. amazing shit.


oh and this game was fucking hard. gameboy for lyfe

i think it says a lot about games such as zelda, mario kart, goldeneye etc that people still get a huge kick out of playing them nowadays. i doubt a lot of current games will still be getting played in 10-15 years time

The thing is, it used to be that you had to have something besides visuals to sell a game. I.e., a story. Now producers are so focused on making shit look fancy that they neglect everything else. Fallout 3 is an excellent example; what a shitty game compared to 1 and 2, in spite of the fact that it's all 3d'd out. The devs actually admitted that the writing and dialogue was not a priority for them. That's fucking awful.

so true. do you ever try to go and beat old disney games like aladin or the lion king? fuckin hard. Or if you want to go way back and try the old old old Ninja Turtles game where there is a top view of the sewers and then you go down them for the levels. That, i think was the hardest game i ever played.

And i can easily beat pretty much any new game i play... and im not that much of a gamer.

So true, but the worst thing is it works.
New game with good graphics and people think it's the best game ever.
"hey look it's call of duty 14. Look at those graphics. Campaign is 2 hours max but you can play online so who cares."

Fuck that. Personally I love older games and don't really enjoy new ones, except a few. Some indie games are pretty cool though.

I think people overestimate the stories of old games. I think nintendo64 maxed out the stories. These days we have world wars, alterations to history, death races, etc etc.

Prior to that, the storyline consisted mostly of

"sorry mario! But the princess is another castle"

It might not have been THE most influential fps ever but it is certainly up there.

The only reason CS is influential is because you can play it on something as basic as an etcher-sketch.
