Good Insulated Pow/Backcountry Outerwear?

so im looking for an outerwear company that makes good, high quality well insulated jackets, with a good waterproofing/breathability ratio, yet still preferably has an overall good look and is plenty tall (not past mid-thigh, im 5'6"). I am a 70% freeride skier, always chasin pow. when skiing park, i  will most likely be in a hoodie or something so overheating on warm days is not the largest factor, but i need something that will keep me warm and dry if i eat shit or im skiing the deep. as of now i own a sessions istodis from a few years back, and i have loved it. it has a good array of pockets/features as well as really nice insulation to keep me warm, however the wp/bb was like 15/10 or something which is not enough to keep one dry on a wet day up here in the pnw. so im looking for something similar, but with maybe a better waterproofing.

any suggestions or dope companys are appreciated and will recieve +k.

why you would ski in anything other then a shell is beyond me, layering works far better then an insulated jacket

i usually wear a causwell crew under my jacket too, i just don't prefer shells.

Get real wool layers. I recommend icebreaker.

Also orange is always awesome.

first, you need a shell. don't ask, get a fucking shell. second, you need layers. first layer is somthing sweat wicking that is snug on the body. next you need a light tech sweater or wool. that will work a majority of the time but a synthetic down jacketr that is pretty thin will be good for very cold days. you can get all these at rei for a decent price. you can now shed layers and not be stuck wearing a down coat in warm wheather.

i have fucking layers. i wear a full underarmour base map, followed by a wool crew. then, i prefer a god damn insulated jacket. is that to much for you fucks to handle? when its warm out i take off the insulated jacket, thus it just being my crewneck and base layer. i do not need a shell, i do not want a shell, i am looking for insulated jackets. thats it. but whatever, +k anyways for good response.

Although a shell will be the best bet for what you are looking for, I can understand your tie to an insulated jacket.

That said, look for a jacket with a waterproof membrane as opposed to a DWR. Although DWR manufacturers will tell you that their DWR coating will perform as well as a waterproof/breathable membrance, my personal experience has not been the case.

shell would be better, buuuuuuuuuuuut you could check out descente even though its not tall/stylish.  They have super warm coats for backcountry.  Plus i believe if you buy on eit gives you like unlimited lift tickets to certain resorts.  http://www.descente.com/mens/jackets.  Maybe also check out trew?  I have no personal experience with them, but from what I hear they are incredibly durable and warm.  http://trewgear.com/

exactly. wool helps, however it isnt mandatory by any means, like it seems all of you are pushing for.

not to be an echo, but hiking or skinning in an insulated jacket would fucking suck.

check out Trew, higher end Orage, higher end Sessions (i have the 11/12 catalog if you want info), higher end Oakley, basically anything that's 3L.

You'll run into problems trying to find a higher end insulated jacket because the industry itself has gone the shell/layers route.

Frankly, I'm stoked on layers, but if you want insulation, check out Patagonia's line. It's probably got the most options out of anyone for insulated jackets. http://www.patagonia.com/us/shop/jackets-skiing-snowboarding?k=6z-3k
