Agreed.  But I don't really think that the 4th of July should be another day purely focused on troops.  More for just establishing our country.  It could just be because I am very Anti-war but still.

Why should we support the troops fighting in a war nobody likes? Saying "support the troops" is just a way for it to be almost impossible to be openly anti-war... If you say you don't support the war people will say that you "don't support the troops."
Its not like i want all the troops to die, but how should i support them? I don't support why they're fighting/what they're fighting for/who they're fighting for... How else can one support them?

"theirs not to reason why" as the poem goes. you don't have to support the wars (i sure as fuck don't) but it'd be pretty hard to argue that we don't need soldiers and military at all, and a military doesnt work very well if each soldier doesnt take orders well. their job is to take orders and do what theyre told to their utmost ability (yes, obviously there are limits to that), it's their and our leaders' jobs to make the right decisions in how to use them. hate the war, hate the decisions of our leaders, but don't hate the soldiers for putting it all on the line and serving

I don't hate troops. I just don't support what they are doing. Obviously i think having some kind of military is important, i wasn't arguing that we don't need a military.

Theres no "support our teachers" or "support our firemen" or "support our doctors and nurses" etc. The only reason this "support our troops" phrase is going around is because it makes it very difficult to say that you don't support the war(s).

actually there is alot of supposrt our teachers and whatnot going around that i have seen same with firemen etc. but you should always support our troops whether they are in a war you dont believe in, they put there lives on the line. imo its just a sign of respect towards them not what they are doing.

Surely what they are putting their lives on the line for is important. Should you respect the troops fighitng for dictatorships. Should you respect terrorists? That they put their life on the line isn't a reason to respect them.

Except they're not putting their lives on the line for me. They're fighting for people in power and people who profit from war. I don't support what they are doing, therefore i don't support them. Its silly to suggest that we have to respect the troops, even if we don't support the war.

Look dude.  People have opinions.  Some of us do not agree with going to war.  We want to support our troops in the decisions that they make but if you look at our wars in a deeper view, you'll see that really they are not protecting our freedom.  And they are not doing what the constitution says they are to do.  That would be to protect our nation at HOME if it is threatened.  Sure it is an old document yada yada yada but it is damn important.  We are not trying to disrespect soldiers or troops in any way.  If it comes across as that, so be it.  You support the killing of innocent civilians in foreign countries, and some of us do not.  We will respect your opinion as long as you respect ours.

Double post but whatever.  The troops enlist and join right.  And then they are sent off by governmental leaders.  The only people I would ever consider to disrespect is the governmental leaders that put our troops lives on the lines and civilians of foreign countries lives on the line.  Anything that involves killing other people to get what we want just is not right in my mind.  I am a peaceful person not wishing death upon anyone.  War is the killing of a nation.  No war is the tranquility and peace of a nation.

I, again, have not "hated" on the troops, nor have i "disrespected" them. I do not support the war they are fighting. I do not support what they are doing.



You, I assume, don't respect the troops of terrorist organizations. I assume, if you were alive during WW2, would not have respected the japanese suicide bombers at pearl harbour or the german soldiers guarding concentration camps. It is a matter of perspective. I do not support war, so i do not support what the troops are doing.

I support the troops in that i want them all to come home safely. I do not support them killing people.










The only arguments that have been made in this thread for supporing thet troops seem to be:
1. If you don't support them you're a cunt
2. Without them, we would all be dead/you'd have no right to say you don't support them etc.

The war in Iraq/Afghanistan along with troops located all over the globe are not protecting our freedoms, they are fighting for the interests of people in power (for the most part).
I am not entirely against all war, there are obviously times when use of force is necessary, but i don't believe that it is necessary in many situations.

There would be no war if there weren't people in costumes who did whatever other people in costumes told them to do. Thus, I don't support the troops. If the proud, the deluded want to go play dress up with guns, that's their choice. I think I can at least spend my support how I would like to, unlike the money stolen from me to pay the troops. anyone that says that they arent protecting us is just a dumb fuck. The simple fact that we have such a powerful millitary keeps us from being shit on. Secondly, you seem to forget what happened ten years ago and the main reason that we went into afghanistan in the first place. I can understand disagreeing with the war in iraq but come on an argument against overthrowing osama is just ridiculous. What do you think we should do? just sit back and let them continue to organize terrorist attacks on our soil? How do you think the US economy would be doing if everyone was scared to work in any big city in fear of the terrorist attacks that would have happened all the time? Do you not think that some of the other superpowers of the world would not be more aggressive if we did not hold the strategic positions across the globe that we currently hold?

If nothing else, support our troops as people. Realize that 99% of the work that they do is completely humanitarian and only 1% is actually killing. Unless you have been to Iraq/Afghanistan and seen the before/after of what is going on over there, then you are ignorant by saying that all what they are over there for is to serve our people in power. The goals of those in power may be questionable, but id say the goals of the troops are far from it. Many of them go over there to PROTECT, not to harm, and dont want to shoot anyone but are instead forced to. Almost all of their time is spent in the communities trying to spread as much love as possible and to improve peoples quality of life.

What would you say about those troops that are medics over in afghanistan? They certainly arent killing anyone, and will heal ANYONE that needs healing? Do you think that they deserve our respect?
