I'm looking for a versatile, fun, longboardy-longboard.

I also skate regularly, so I don't need this BS about "freestyle" and doing tricks with a longboard, because if i want to do a kickflip.. I'll use my skateboard.

I want one that's good for doing DH, but i'm mostly going to be carving, cruising, pumping, and maybe I'll get into sliding.

I'm probably going to end up putting Paris 180's on whatever board I get, so this is just about the board, the trucks are a constant. (unless certain trucks are highly recommended for the board). And then i'll decide about wheels and bearings and such.

SO!
what I've thought about as choices are as follows, and I'd like some honest opinion about each board.
I'll give karma and shenanigans to people who offer legit, non-asshole-y answers. And I don't want any longboard/skateboard hate.

I have the apex 37( the older model whit original trucks), i really like it. So if you have some question pm me. Plus the new apex 37 is just unreal, i prefer the new one but i cant buy it. I tried the new apex, i have the older one, i have a dervish and my friend ride a tan tien. Apex37 ( carbon) > apex 37/ dervish > tan tien. But thats me, i never tried the BC and rayne borad and bustin, but they look all great.

I have a BC Moray and I've ridden the Tan Tien a lot. Comparing just the two they are virtually the same board, same flex, practically same dimensions, both bamboo, same concave, except I like the Moray better because it has bigger kicks and its not a Loaded, which is always a plus. And its about $120 cheaper. I can't speak for the other boards but for just those two get the Moray!

Thanks for the input! But when I searched images of the moray, a lot came up showing it snapping right by the trucks.. Have you ever snapped one, or seen one snapped, or felt like it was significantly weaker at that point? It seems like the moray is perfect if I want the tan tien because it's so similar but loads cheaper.. I just dont want it to break.

Alright, that's positive. My friends older brother does downhill with an original pintail, but that's so different then what I'm lookingfor that I couldnt really tell if I liked the board or the trucks. But can you give more input on tantien vs. Apex37?

I have the EEL and love it, wicked carving board and super snappy fun flex. If you are confident you can ride it at pretty high speeds on hills and stuff as well. I would recommend the eel for sure.

BC did have a lot of problems with it snapping right before the trucks after their first production which was now 3 years ago I think. Its now a lot more durable and they added these weird truck plates that supposedly make it stronger. Check out Silverfish for better info on it.

It seems like the moray is more suited to what I'm looking for, besides the length, concave and kicktales, do you think the moray has any other major differences from the eel? Have you ever ridden a moray?

ive only tried apex and tan tien out of those but the tan tien is sooo nice the apex is really stiff(im 160 lbs and it had virtually no flex) and it has no kicktails but i do like originals trucks

I'm starting to longboard, I used to skateboard. I have a landyacthz chinook with some orangatang 4president orange wheels. with landyacthz bear trucks. And I totally loooove my set-up.  Look this up :

I dont think sliding would be easy with those wheels though, because they're soft and grippy, but for carving and cruising they are really good. I might get another set-up of wheels if want to try sliding.

It is. I'd suggest a 9two5 or Time Machine for you, depending on how much DH/sliding you'll be doing. I just got my 9two5 and love it. The Time Machine is a similar flex and basic board shape, but shorter and inherently turnier because of the angle the trucks are at.

well, I'm a beginner in longboarding, So what I'm saying is not a pro description, it's my opinion as a good beginning lonboarder. but so far I think it carves really well. I love how it's not flat, the ''w bowl concave'' shape.

I use it to cruise around town, which is kinda flat, to go at my friends place, go the the bank etc. It does a great job. But still, dont take what I say to the letter, I'm still a bit n00b.

I want more of a turny, flexy, carvy board rather then a serious DH board. I'm going to be pushing around and carving flat then bombing hills so I want something responsive but.. Soft. More on the side of the moray and tan tien..

I'd go with the loaded deck, they got the perfect flex to them and are so good at straight up DH. if you want wheels that arethe shit i'd go with orangatangs. They're super durable and are real good for slides which are really fun to learn once you get the feel for your new board.

my buddy has the rayne vendetta and loves it to death, as do i. it super versatile and hasnt broken a sweat as far as reliability goes. he has had it for 4 months now. i have a bustin ibach 40 which is pretty similar to the rayne, and its been epic for everything that ive done with it in the 3 weeks that ive had it.

the bustin maestro was a close second choice when i ordered my board. never ridden it but it looks dope. bustin is very legit

You were in that other thread.. Just stop dude. I do skate also and I want a longboard to longboard, if you even read the thread in the first place, I mentioned that I want one for DH, carving, and cruising. Basically all of the things I can't do on a skateboard.

RAYNE VENDETTA
I got mine a week ago and have never had a better board. It kills my old dervish and is way better than my kracked skulls. It is great for cruising, sliding, some light bombing (under 30 and your set) dancing and literally everything imaginable. I have Paris 180's and o'tang durians and it is the best setup i have ever owned.

quick question…are you looking at the Dervish at all? I know that i jumped on the Loaded hype train…but I'll tell you what. I absolutely love my derv. I weigh a wopping 130 lbs and settled for the Flex 2 deck. This thing is super carvey and responds on a dime. For me, it is the perfect amount of flex and I love the concave because I can totally lock in when i'm negotiating a sick slide or just a tight corner. As for downhilling, I still think you should consider this. I have had no problems bombing some smaller hills. It has a stable platform so you don't have to worry so much about the wobbles. If worst comes to worst, tighten them trucks.

i am very pleased with this setup. i personally would never go back to conventional bushing trucks after using originals patented spring trucks. they are just so much more responsive and are easier to lock a stable balance and so less speed wobble!

i also wouldn't bother investing in uber-expensive ceramic bearings. bones red do the job. the difference in price is not worth it.

i also ride a rayne vendetta and honestly its a killer board. slides great and bombs just as well, the concave gives it a really sensitive feel and really tight turns. keep in mind i have bear 180's
couldn't have asked for a better board in my opinion

do not use original trucks if you want to do downhill
do not buy a loaded if you want to do downhill
do not buy a BC if you want to do downhill

if you're looking to get any speed at all, buy a stiff deck with some serious concave. loaded boards are made to be balanced, and as a result they aren't particularly good for anything. i have a dervish and it starts to get sketchy around 20 mph. to go fast, you should take a hard look at comet and landyachtz.

also, a carve board and a downhill board are mutually exclusive. if you want to zip around like a little RC car, you want a flexy board with soft bushings. if you want to go fast, you want a stiff board with hard bushings. you cannot have both. despite what anybody says, there is not such thing as a "good all-around longboard." if a board is good for one thing, it is necessarily bad for other things. decided what you want to do and build a setup that is good for that. otherwise, your only option is to buy multiple boards.

Yeah I appreciate it, I just didn't know if you were a rep for them or something (orange name). But they look super legit seeing the warehouse and everything, so when I decide on a board I'll probably buy from them.

You have a valid point. And I understand that I can't get both, and if I didn't make it clear before, I want a carvy board rather then a DH board. So that's why I'm listing things such as the apex 37, loaded tan tien, and BC moray. I was suggested those other boards, and I've just been trying to accept as wide of an opinion as possible. And the guys in NSG are assholes, so that's why I didn't put it in there.. If it reeally bugs you, pm a mod. I'm sure theyd be happy to move my thread.

Well if I was going to consider the dervish, I'd rather try the BC eel, just because it's cheaper.. And to clarify my intentions with this board: I want to carve flat, do medium small hills, and slide. Do you think the dervish sounds right?

all preference. Some might be more high performance than others but lots of boards are good. don't think you need to get a loaded , longboard larry or whatever cause everyone on here or silverfish likes them. They're probably good though, it's just loadeds are really expensive.

and everyone bitches about originals cause they're not used to riding them. I tried some kids once and it was weird at first but I got used to it after a bit.

my roommate rides the bustin maestro and he loves the thing to death. its great for flat carving and cruising and can handle most of the downhill you throw its way. it also has a rise forward of center which makes pushing on flat and uphill much easier.

So far: Apex 37= good(strong possibility) Butin Maestro= ehh, not enough good reviews. Loaded tan tien= good(but too expensive) Loaded dervish= good(but to expensive) Out of the two BC boards, it seems the Moray is better suited.. BC Moray= good( best choice so far) Rayne+ landyatchs seem more DH..

I will state my opinion again. RAYNE VENDETTA. You cannot go wrong with this board. Great for sliding and cruising. Stable at speeds yet is great for carving depending on your truck/bushing setup. Rayne and landyachtz like you said both have many boards that are DH specific, but the vendetta is perfect for what you are looking for.
