Poison ivy

So i got myself a case of poison ivy. i get it everyyear no matter what i try to do. so do any of you have any remedies for it?

fuck that other thread. this wont help now, but in the future, after youve been hiking/doing whatever outdoors, shower and use dish soap as soon as you can. It gets rid of the oils and leaves you poison ivy free. i bushwhacked through a literal thicket of poison ivy the other day and not a spot of it is on me. also, learn how to identify it in all seasons. and try to stay conscious of being around it and not rub your hands all over your body (sexy time)

although dish soap does work to get rid of it, it's also pretty terrible to use on your skin. best solution is to just know what it looks like and be able to spot it out from a distance before you're standing in the middle of it. once you have it the best thing is to not scratch obviously and use something like calomine lotion (that pink stuff) on it to stop itching so you're not tempted. jewelweed also works too if you're going for the all natural thing.  but there's not much you can do once you have it but bear with it for 3 weeks and not irritate it by scratching and constantly touching the area. And poison ivy is one of those funny things where constantly getting it will not build any immunity to it but person depending, make it worse for the next time.

I think you're talking about eevee who can evolve into either vaporeon, jolteon or flareon. I know there are a few more but anything after 151 doesn't count

Dish soap may work, but rubbing alcohol will be the most effective if u have it (better than the special soaps at the pharmacy). I was playing airsoft with some friends, and I know there is poison ivy there ( I got it pretty bad a few years ago there), but I put rubbing alcohol on like 4 hours later and I never got it (and I am like super sensitive to it). Now that you have it, I would just try to wait it out, don't get too much sun, and don't overuse anything that you put on it (I wouldn't put anything on it if you don't need to). Maybe work on an edit or something, but mostly just try to ignore it. Also, just a side note, if you see poison ivy, do not burn it to get rid of it

oh and when ever I get poison ivy I rub aloe. I have a plant at home where I can just take a leaf off but you can buy the stuff in little bottles.

I disagree completely with this. The reagent in poison ivy that causes skin problems is urushiol which is a non-water soluble oil. The very best way to get off any oil is a soap since soap has that hydrophobic end which easily latches right on to the oil so it's easily washed away with water. Using a solvent like rubbing alcohol may be a good immediate response to lift the oil off your skin, but unless you actually wash the area the alcohol will only evaporate and leave the urushiol exactly back where it was.  But rubbing alcohol and then wiping/washing it off will help, it just will not be nearly as effective as just using ordinary hand soap and water.

I don't think you're actually making contact with poison ivy when you're playing if you're waiting 4 hours before cleaning. once you have the oil on you it bonds and starts reacting in a very short amount of time. Much shorter than 4 hours.

Take alot of showers and rub the affected areas down with irish spring soap. You gotta keep oil off your body. So dont use shsmpoo for a while, just soap. You should clear up pretty quick when you do this. When you itch alot is the perfect time to take a shower. Scratch it alot and scrub it with sosp while in the shower

pretty good advice. the only thing that's "contagious" or can cause it to spread is the oil from the plant. if you wash the area and get off all the oil (with any kind of soap), some warm water, you'll be good to go and it'll start to heal.

scratching will do nothing so if you want, scratch away. if you have dirty ass fingers it could get infected, but that's just like any other cut or abrasion. hot water generally helps when I get it.

it should take about a week to go away, always person-dependent though (mine stays for like 3 weeks and I scar easily, my skin sucks). if it's really really bad, aka on your face, in between the toes/webs of fingers, on your nuts, you can see your doc and they'll give you low dose steroids.

here's the suggested treatments from my class notes

Remove offending agent

Wet dressing (Burrow’s solution)

Domboro’s soaks, Aveeno, calamine

Oral anti-histamines

Hydroxyzine 10-25mg hs; Benadryl; Zyrtec

Topical corticosteroids

Oral prednisone/”medrol dose-pak” for severe cases and/or involving face and eyes

60mg/d then down 10mg/d

-face, eyelids à prednisone not medrol dosepak

-medrol dosepak, suppresses, then usually comes back 3 days later

don’t make it drier, becomes itchier (no sprays, have alcohol which dries)

When I was younger my dad told me one time he was burning brush, and he was unaware that the area was basically covered in Poison Ivy. The oil from the leaves got into the air, down his lungs, and he was in the hospital for two weeks.

However my cousin has told me that before I was born he told the same story except that he had eaten Poison Ivy to prove he wasn't allergic...

when it really starts to itch cold water and ice packs but try as hard as you can not to itch it your in for hell the next couple of weeks sorry bro good luck

You don't have to piss all over yourself rather just on the poison ivy patches. Crazy enough this actually works.

But if it's bad enough and just want it gone fast go to the doctors and they'll give you steroids and roids work like a fuckin charm

this sounds crazy but butter, its also great for getting off car/bike grease and tree sap both of which soap sucks for.
