Agreed^. They probably want to participate in activities that do not have to do with the business their parents are in purely out of rebellion. Because their parents own a resort, they have even more reason to not like skiing. Additionally, I'm independently wealthy because of my family, do you hate me?

^Independently wealthy means that you are wealthy independently. I do not use my parents money b/c they gave a bunch to me. Therefore, I use my money which is no longer my parents.... hence independently wealthy.

you can be called independently wealthy at any time if you are not dependent on anyone else to be classified as wealthy. therefore, if his parents gave him a bunch of money, even if they were to pass away or leave him for dead in a supermarket somewhere, he would still be able to support himself using money he already possessed.
