The project was given the name ON3P Skis (Oh-Ehn-Three-Pea) after the names of the cross streets of the house I lived at in Tacoma (Thirteenth and Proctor = ON(e) 3 P).
The street address in Tacoma where Scott was living when this whole "well, why not make skis" idea came around was on 13th and Proctor.
Its a weird name, sure, but I think it suits our style pretty well. If we wanted to make mediocre product for general audiences, having an easy name to pronounce would be the first thing on the marketing agenda - but I dont want to do that, and the name suits our quirks just fine. Four years ago I would have never thought I'd be making skis for a living, its kinda still crazy to find myself sitting in our office above the factory.
It takes about 45 minutes to lay up a ski. I think the most Scott has done in a day was 20 pairs... that was back when we didnt sleep during the first winter.
Oh I totally agree with you, I love our company name because its something different and has links to the place I first did what I'm doing now for a career. Just making the point that its not especially a great to have a name nobody can pronounce from a strict marketing/advertising standpoint.
This thread has enlightened my life. I've been saying "oh-nep" forever, never realized it was "oh en 3 pee" also it's really cool that for once nobodies being a dick in a thread.. And how ginko you're really down to earth.
