@Dan-Man have you seen what's being done on longboards lately? It's not just bombing a hill (although that is one style, known as Down Hill), it's sliding, flip tricks, big drops -- the possibilities are endless and the sport is really just now starting to take off. Whatever you see being done on a shortboard is also being done on a longboard, but probably at a higher speed and with more fineness and fluidity. Check yourself.

well if you think of it another way its just another part of the same sport, different kinda board to do a different kinda thing, bomb hills/commute/sliding/different trick set.

its like you saying park skis are the only skis people should buy, due to that being the part of the sport that is real cool in your opinion. what about those kids that want to ski pow? should they take your advice and get skis that are 80 underfoot with no rocker? no that'd be ridiculous

skating has it's things and long boarding has its things. stop this stupid hate thing.. it's like snowboarding vs. skiing. they're different. long boarding is really chill, down-hill, fluid surfing like, making the most out of a flat(or angled) piece of road. skating is really fun in progression, nailing tricks, grinding things, flip tricks and shit. they're different.

I have an urban cruiser board thats a regular 8" deck with 64's and a riser. I like it so much more than a longboard because its much more nimble, stuff like popping up and down curbs and quick pivots around corners are a lot easier
