I got caught smoking weed....By the Popo.

So I was in a park (One my friends and I have smoked at hundreds of times) and a cop car roles up...He gets out, asks us how old we are, stuff like that, then he sees the 2 bongs...blah blah blah he talks about how it's bad, then makes us go in his car. He drives us home, gives us all (me and my 2 friends) $500 fines, and we will likely get 75 hours of community service. And I have a court date.


All that for 2 bongs. Wtf.




My friend said "You will be laughing about it next week"....yeah right, maybe next summer when I'm not grounded.

First what's wrong with more people smoking? Besides marijuana wasn't even made illegal because for anything to do with problems from people smoking it. Decriminalization is dumb, it's creating a grey area. Basically you're saying it's illegal but we know you're gonna do it so we don't care. Also marijuana in general being illegal has fucked us from all the industrial and medical benefits from weed.

Well seeing as it is against the law, what are they supposed to do? Yeah I'm all for legalizing it but if I was a cop I would still get people in trouble for it. Simply because it's my job.

your lucky. i got caught with 2 grams of weed and got 9 months of probation, $600 fine, and 8 weeks of J&A substance abuse classes.... biggest pile of horse shit ever, such a waste of time and money.

It is a matter of principle.
Because I never do half ass shit. If I'm going to be a police officer, I'm going to do it to the best of my ability and not let my morals get in the way of that. So I would get someone in trouble who is smoking pot because my job entails that. I wouldn't just pick and choose what laws I want to enforce. Now with that said, I would probably never become a police officer so I don't have to deal with conflicts like that.

hahaha you're an idiot, you really think anything like weed would be decriminalized if you are under 18? not like it makes any difference tho, if you are a minor at least you can get your records sealed most of the time, once you hit 18, any fuck ups are there for life.

You know what is worse? Getting 300 hours of community service for a simple graffiti tag on the back of a street sign... That's what my buddy got, not to mention the fines.

When it takes effect on July 1, the new law will remove criminal penalties for the use or possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and paraphernalia, lowering the penalty from a misdemeanor to a civil violation. Rather than facing up to a year in jail and fines of up to $1,000, first time offenders will be cited and assessed a $150 civil fine. Subsequent offenses are subject to increased fines of $200-$500, and upon a third violation, offenders are referred to a drug awareness program. Most importantly though, they will not be arrested or saddled with a criminal record. In addition to the fine, anyone under 21 who is found responsible for possessing less than a half ounce of marijuana will face a 60-day suspension of their drivers licenses.

false. I'm 18 and got a paraphernalia ticket(I had a gram, chillum, pipe, grinder and papers) a couple days ago and the $681 ticket goes under a civil record and isn't considered a misdemeanor so it's not on my record.

Yeah, that bill has been introduced, but what did they say? "They acknowledged, however, that the bill has virtually no chance of becoming law." Why do you think he said that? Because he knows that it sure as fuck isn't gonna get voted in. All these stories of kids getting fucked for smoking weed makes me so happy that I live in Canada.

dude that is were you are 100% wrong. remember that less than half of the population votes, and even fewer write their congressmen to express issues that are important to them. congressmen, and the people that work for them, read those letters. they have to stay connected to their voters and know what they find important.

without direct contact with their voters, politicians turn to special interest groups to find out what is important to different parts of the populous. but as fate would have it, there are no special interest groups on marijuana smoker's behalf. but there are quite a few against legalization, (tobacco, pharmaceutical and alcohol corporations, for example), so why would a politician run a campaign against these powerful institutions if they don't think any voters really support legalization?

bottom line, this is still a representative government. let candidates and politicians know what you want, and when the time comes, vote accordingly. /rant

Congressmen get elected by money. There is a HUGE correlation between campaign finance and the winner of an election. So as long as there are powerful lobbies, citizens voices will be undermined. Politicians don't reach out to special interests to determine what's citizens find important, lobbyists buy politicians. With the recent Citizens United Supreme Court decision, it's near impossible to regulate and control these contributions. Should a politician lose the alcohol/tobacco lobby, they have already dug their own grave.

And NORML is a special interest group. So is the National Cannabis Industry Association.

Though some cops aren't pro-legalization, they didn't beome cops to shut down the kids smoking weed. I'd guess they did to genuinely improve the world and whatnot. Their job is to enforce the laws, not to make them. Just like it's their duty to arrest serious criminals, they also are obligated not to ignore minor things, like guys smoking weed.

I don't have much faith in our shitty elected officials. you can get a fucking ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, doubt mariuana will become legal within the next 20 years.

all i'm saying is that people complain a lot about the political system, but ignoring it entirely is the absolute best way to ensure that nothing changes. you said it wasn't worth writing your congressman, and i think thats bullshit. an individual citizen doesn't have much power against enormous corporations and special interest groups, but its sure as shit better to use the little power that we do have than to give up.

and i really hope your not implying that its not worth your time to vote.

Honestly fuck off. I've probably done more than you as far as writing representatives for many different issues.

What's really goin to change things is if americans get educated and stand up together for what needs to happen. Other than that the chances are pretty slim.


As far as voting, I'm registered, but I refuse to vote for shitty candidates, only voted in one large election. This whole voting for the lesser of 2 evils bullshit is what keeps this shitty system thriving.

If it were legal I still wouldn't smoke at this point. If I still did would smoke the same amount. And honestly would probably continue getting it through the same people, rather than buy it at the store, unless it was cheaper and as good.
