Colleges with ski clubs

Hey NS.

I'm starting my junior year in HS and I figure that it's time I start looking into colleges. I'm on the east coast now (PA) but my parents have told me that they have saved up enough to send me somewhere out of state (out west) where I can study and spend a lot of my free time skiing. I'm thinking about studying either sports medicine or to become a pharmacist.

What are some schools with good ski clubs that I should look into? I want a club with friendly members who go out often (a few times a week) that will ski back country and spend a lot of time skinning. I'm not much into park skiing. Also I would prefer that the school be in or near a medium/small sized town that has a decent amount to do.

Here at CU, the CU Freestyle Ski Team is a blast! We have park coaches and a dedicated backcountry coach who does BC trips 3-4 days a week. I'm a captain on it, so if you want any more info, shoot me a pm.

true, but the skiers on it aren't nearly as dedicated, and if you're into BC, it's not the best program.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has one but if you are going to college for women and a really good ski hill I wouldn't come here....

I know university of Utah has one, its called one love or something.

I don't really know much about it, when I went to visit the orientation guy just mentioned it, so if someone wants to tell me what the scoop is with it that would be cool

truth CUFST is up in summit pretty much every weekend. One of my bros older brother is on CUFST so we shred with them sometimes.

Not to mention that CU is the fucking greatest place on earth. Like remember when you were seven and you were like fuck yeah amusement parks are the shit thrills everywhere. CU is kinda like that but you go to school. The chicks are fucking hot, the weather is awesome (winter and summer), the number one party school in the nation, and its a great fucking school. ANNNNNNND we have some of the dankest nuggatron in the country, great access to concerts of all types, great access to drugs, just an awesome fucking school.

I was in hallett its like right in front of the c4... I fucking hated the dorms but i had the single best year of my life last year. Get stoked homie You're in for a crazy fucking year.

Sure, tha U of U isn't CU, but it's still pretty fucking awesome.
I highly doubt it's going to be one of the biggest mistakes of your life.


U of U has the Utah Freeskier Society as well as One Love, which is the ski and board club. I'm partial to One Love, i've met a lot of cool skiers through the club, all super laid back and chill.

truthfully if youre not having a good time at the U its noone but your own fault. Get out, meet people and do shit. I literally havent had a dull weekend the entire year. If you cant find a party any night of the week then youre just lame as shit and you dont go out and meet people. The mountains are WAY closer than boulder and there is a ton of other stuff that is better here than it is in CO (fly fishing, longboarding, climbing kind of). Its awesome having class and being able to just jump up to the mountains before or after class because its only a half hour away. Id say go wherever your program is best, because if you put yourself out there youre going to have a blast anywhere.

Um. How about because the mountains are not flat, 2 hours away and actually get snow in Utah. Complete Generalizations though to make you feel better.

To OP though. I don't know about specific clubs at specific Universities, but that info is pretty easy to find on schools websites. It will most likely be in there recreation or union page of the schools website (ex. OSU http://recsports.osu.edu/competitive-sports/sport-clubs). Most major Universities that are anywhere near a hill will have a team and or club that has people that will want to ride. Once you have a list of schools you are seriously interested in just find there respected team/club and email them and ask questions or what not. Also, there are a ton of forums on here that already have pros and cons of tons of universities that cater to skiing. But, my short list of schools I wouldn't of hated going to are; U of U, UN-Reno, University of Washington, Montana State University and Boise State.
