Im 6'4" and no one in my group of friends is less than 6' so i need alot of interior room.

hopefully early 00's model

awd/4wd def a plus

wanna get close to 20mpg on highways

other than that, i am open to anything.

im just going off of my personal experience.

our 88 xj had the motor go out at 200k, our 89 had the motor die at 150k, the new motor with around 50k on it has recently developed some lifter tick

the transmission mounts on our 89 broke, these jeeps weve had have been very well maintained and never driven hard and they've still been money pits.

chrysler doesnt make a good product. the best thing in a chrysler is the cummins and they have no hand in its production.

My friend got it from his dad who bought it brand new. He never has problem with it. But he treats it right, just like other friend who has allroad. And an other friend treats his car like shit so the car treats him like shit, and has many problems. The Allroad is a bit like the Salomon Suspect, great ski but can be shit in durability.

That sucks that you haven't had much luck with Jeeps. I can definitely see where you're coming from if your personal experiences have been this bad.

IFS is very weak and will break a ton more offroading than a solid axle.  Go try and find an offroader that would turn down having a dana60 over the new independent suspension setup.  Solid axles are more reliable, durable, and easier to work on.  They have fewer and usually stronger components.  This pairs really well with offroading.

And yes, jeeps used to run solid axles.  This is what I was talking about.  They talk up jeeps as offroad kings then they go and put in IFS which is more suited to comfortable road driving over offroading.

Newer Chevy S10, 4x4, 4.3L Long box or extended cab if you choose. Really reliable, and you can haul an assload of shit in it. Gets a little over 22 mpg highway.

Best deal would be the 5 speed 4x4, 4.3L since theyre good on gas and fun to drive. 4.3L gets good gas mileage and has plenty of power to have fun with.


I would know, i've owned 3.

Cadillac Deville's from the 1978-1990 are hood and can be found cheap. Plus they are easy to work on if you know anything about cars.

Jeeps still do run solid axles you meat head (FYI no one considers a liberty, compass or commander an actual jeep...) the JK 4 door which replaced the xj, and the new wk still have pumpkins

Once again you have no idea what youre talking about..and charmander is the last person on this website you need to preach the pros of a straight axle over an IFS set up to.....
