Best tech-wash / waterproofing?

What is the best tech wash or way to waterproof ski outerwear. I recently picked up saga ivory pants and a lobster jacket, and would like to increase the waterproofness of both of them. I have heard things like nikwax are good options, but I want something that will be able to hold up to an average pnw day (I have some better stuff for rain, but I like the look of saga more). Anybody have any experiences with this?

Nikwax works well for a few days, but its effectiveness is highly dependent on what type of fabric you are using it on. I gave up on washing my old jacket every few weeks and just bought a new one, havent needed to use the stuff since.

Regular powdered detergent and two rinse cycles, despite what internet peoples say, including those who are about to reply in this thread. Washing replenishes the coating, so try this first before buying Nikwax or similar, just follow your jacket's label. This info has come from numerous shop reps including GoreTex, Helly and TNF.
