Need Help!- HV30 connection to MacBook.

Hey NS, I have a bit of a problem that I'm sure has an easy solution, but I can't seem to find it on my own. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. I also apologize for using incorrect terminology in advance.

Well, I recently purchased a Canon HV30 from another member on here and I am quite happy with it. I currently own a MacBook with these ports:

The cord my HV30 uses to connect to computers is this: (I think it is just a firewire)

My computer can't connect to it because it doesn't have a port like this:

I already bought this: (same thing, only USB)

but it doesn't work because the HV30 only works with the Firewire.

I have access to another computer that is compatible with the firewire so i was wondering if it is possible to import my clips on that computer, save them to a flash drive, and then save them to my MacBook without loosing quality.
I really want to be able to import directly to my MacBook though.
I will be editing on Final Cut X if that makes any difference.

Well for starters, you are NOT going to want to be doing any transfering of clips between computers. It sounds like all you really need is an adapter, however I have no experience with this camera so I'm not really sure. I know lots of people on here have the HV30 so it shouldnt be too hard to find a solution.

I had the same problem when I got a MacBook. And you are right it is an easy solution. You need a FireWire 800 cord. You can get them at best buy or radioshack. The FireWire you have is a FireWire 400 and is outdated on MacBooks

he doesn't have any firewire ports, at all. the new macbooks dont have them

whats the other computer that has the firewire port? depending on that, the easiest solution might be to capture on that computer and then move them to your macbook like you said

Damn i looked at that a while ago and wasnt sure if it would work with it.
that costs $20.00
i could just order a fire wire 800 for $7.00 haha.

after researching more, i dont think there is a solution. it isn't guaranteed that a firewire to usb converted will work, but even if it does, theres still a good chance that my footage will be affected while doing it...
