I'm 6'5...Help me NS...What SKI?

so i have 177 walls and theyre just too short

looking for something softer and more playful like t-halls or alpha's but im wondering if they'll be long enough

i ski mostly rails and smaller to medium jumps

Damn your tall...try a 185 with a wider under foot...would compensate for instability....like the opus or bent chetlers

184 liberty antigen. symmetrical, 89mm underfoot, early rise in tip and tail, camber, poppy as fuck, light, durable, $449 for next year

im 6'4..probably close to 6'5, about 185-190 lbs

regarding the alpha 1's- after demoing them for a couple days, I really like them.

currently using 185 CoreUPT colbys and would highly recommend them

the colbys are stiffer than the alpha ones. the colbys are stiffer than most skis haha.

189 Seth Pistol/Vicious? 

Should be a very affordable if you can find some new, even cheaper if they're used.  And they're long.

08/09 Fujas 189, even better.

Or the 185 Dynastar 87mm models (Spin, Distorter and whatever they're calling it next year), those have a really long effective edge.

i agree with him on the kung fujas. theyre is an online shop floating around somewhere that has them and p15s, and they will mount them for you for around 500 dollars. PM me if you want me to find it. i am 6'4 and i like my kung fujas they were fun. i have since got rid of them and now have a couple pairs of hellbents and silencers, but they were an awesome ski when i had em

id say the 183 or 185 (idk which one they are) alpha ones would be too short for you cuz of the early rise

Oh it isn't? You mean the end of last season seeing all those kids on shorty bacons and such rippin park was just a fluke? People sayin skinny skis aren't fun and are only used by folks tryin to get that last extra 180 into their tricks was wrong?...oh sorry. I must not know nothin about trends and what comin down the line for the next few years....please proceed.....lmfao

all i ment by my comment was that what you recommended, 185 bentchetler, would be absurdly unstable for someone his height, even with the increase underfoot, they are extremly flexy even for someone like me (5'10) and would be a tough choice for this guy to ski park with

Oh I thought you were one of those "skinny pants, skinny skis are the new newschool" types....sorry...but regardless there is a trend toward a shorter, softer, wider ski for park and for kinda jibbin the whole mountain for that matter. I've seen 5'11" 180lb guys rockin 172 bacons mounted dead center that were absolutely killin park. Actually saw a 15 yr old chick on pandoras who wasn't super tech but was skyin higher than most of the guys. Point being that if the trend is going toward bigger, faster, floatier tricks and less tech a shorter wider ski would be optimal. So for his height a 185 that's over 110 underfoot would be a short ski for him yes, unless he was shootin for that new newschool floaty surfy, dare I say snowboardy style.

...and Harlaut or Wallisch had that snowblade edit, and killed it. Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's better. Longer == more stable, period. This guy is 6'5. Him riding 185s would be the equivalent of someone 5'10 riding 168s which everyone would say is way short.

Dude my one buddy is 6'3" and he rides last years bacons at 184 with zero issue whatsoever. That said your absolutely right. Length=stability Back in the day I was riding 205 atomic arc for backcountry...but it was like 70 underfoot. If you tried to put me on a 205 now I'd laugh at ya and I'm 6'1". So like I said width also=stability. You split the two and what do ya got?....the opus or the chetlers. Whatever really. Ride what feels right. I was jus throwin out the theory that jus cause your tall doesn't mean ya need some obnoxiously long ski if you compensate underfoot.

Yeah dude have you ever tried hittin rails and boxes with a fat ski? Super stable. You can pull off some sick ass one footer type stuff. The reason you don't see it often is cause those skis are expensive and rails are brutal on bases. That's changing though. Lotsa peeps are getting older ones like say the line Elizabeth or the 10' bacons and rippin park with em. This year if ya get a chance demo a backcountry/freestyle ski like the opus or the chetlers and run it through the park a few times. It'll blow your mind how much stability the width gives ya for all that stuff.

I am 6 foot 5 inches 250 pounds and I ride the new kungfujas in a 189 and they are great for rails and smaller jumps. Get the 189 though.

Yeah I was looking at those too but I can't get a hookup for Atomic so I went with the old Fujas. Patents are meant to be nice (symmetrical 95mm I think) but soft. Then again, so are the Fujas but at least you get way more length with the Fujas. Last year's Cryptonite (183 I think), Stepup (184), Ace Of Spades (184) or Punisher (191) were other ones I was looking at.

Sound like you're just looking for park skis though, go for whatever you can get a good deal on, they'll only last a year if you hit a lot of rails. If you really can't decide then just get the old Fujas.

Most pow skis also have a different and softer flex profile than most park skis, as they're meant for... well, powder.

Pro's go through an insane amount of free skis a year, price is not a factor when it comes to choosing a ski for them. The reason you dont see if more often is weight (specifically swing weight). If we're just talking surface area, its going to take a huge increase in waist to equal the surface area gained just by adding 10cm in length. Its way easier to just get a longer park ski than learn on a wide pow ski... but this is freeskiing, so to each his own. And the fact that I ski a 120 waist ski almost every day doesnt help my argument, lol.

Exactly. Each time I ride a wider ski I like it better than the last...shoot by next year you may see some idiot in the park rockin the pontoons and it'll be me....haha
