note far, cry me a river Thomas. Who cares if you can't get your park pass before the season actually starts. it takes like 10 minutes or whatever. Don't understand why people would want to drive all the way over to a shop to get a park pass anyway, might as well just get it when your up there.

In other news I want to buy a ridiculously bright headlamp to blind people at stevens pass with this year. I feel like this one would be perfect for knocking some retinas out

Look at light and motion headlamps. I use them for night biking. Actually thinking of bringing it up so I can night ski in unlit areas.

Surefire's products as so-so, and their warranty sucks.

If you really want to blind some fuckers and have the absolutely best warranty backing your product, Pelican 9430 Remote Area Lighting System shown below with optional Tear Off Backpack. Yeah, it weighs 25 lbs, but has a 2000 lumen high setting, 1000 lumen low setting and offers a "strobe" function for both power settings. Bringing the party to the mountain. Can sell it to you for cost.

The base unit alone is between $500-$600, I will leave it at that for now. That does not include any of the optional accessories that were shown in the pictures above.

Burn time on the included rechargeable sealed 12V battery is 15 hours on the low 1000 lumen setting and 8 hours on the high 2000 lumen setting. Battery takes 8 hours to fully charge from full discharge and is capable of up to 500 charging cycles.

They are incredibly fun to play with, take camping and such, but not too practical for most people.

Then there's this beast, 4 light heads pushing 2000/1000 lumens each:

@ 5-600 a pop plus another 2-300 on accessories, and 25 lb, a couple of these would be a pretty atractive option for a film crew that wants to avoid the noise and hassles of a generator, power cords and other shenanigans. For sled access or urban features I could see these working out pretty well. .

I've often wondered how well they would work for photo/film shoots in shitty light. They are LED's so the light output will be exceptionally bright and very white. They don't have any form of diffuser or the ability to add one, but I'm sure if you got creative you could come up with something that would work if needed.

If anyone wants to give it a shot this winter, let me know and I can bring some toys.

For photography, my guess is that strobes will still be king, as they have the ability to put out a fuck ton of light, for a very short time, and are battery powered. They allow you to freeze motion, without having a fast shutter, which is cool (see grant's SLC Bryce Phillips shot).

For video I see these as a nifty option.

I think some night shoots would be a lot of fun. Ideas include train jib on HW2. Also Brooke could bring her sled and shuttle everyone up to some place awesome. Or we just tour out there. If we can fit that shit in one of my packs, I am down to haul it up some hill.

The larger orange unit will be the pain in the ass. It is "revision B" which means it is lighter than the original, but it is not light at just under 50 lbs. The other stuff should be pretty manageable for sure.

Ok, yes it is, especially at altitude. I am still game to carry it, just don't ask me to set any boot packs or skin tracks while I am doing so.

Another option is to put shit in a sled (like ones little kids use to slide down hills) and tie it around you and drag the thing up the hill instead of actually carrying it.

50 lbs and the dimensions of the case would make it extremely awkward to carry efficiently. You'd need a pretty large pack to accommodate this unit, my 5500 cubic inch pack would not fit this thing easily.

The idea of a plastic sled would make it much easier to handle, I have a few that I could bring up as well.

What are you riding? I have been looking at getting one or two this season or next season depending on how things pan out. I really don't know much yet, been many years since I have been on one and technology sure has changed.

The sled show is this weekend, actually! But yes. My boyfriend and I just bought two sleds, possibly one more this weekend. So, I'm always up for sled skiing. He went on the backside last year and found some sick spots (I just had surgery so I was out :( )

I'm thinking Grace Lakes for a couple reasons:

Easy access. We could sled right up the road( and bring beer, lawn chairs, huge lights, whatever)
Close, in case someone does something stupid and gets hurt.
Decent terrain. Especially Hunter Hill.

But I'm all about a night shoot. Especially a night shoot in pow.
