Car audio people...

I dont know much about car audio and two of the speakers in my 05 xterra are blown and I'm planning on replacing all 4 door speakers now. The previous owner put in a pioneer head unit and there are two amps, one hooked up to the speakers and the other was used for a sub he had. I went to a car audio place near me and the guy said told me about getting a pair of entry level pioneer speakers or a pair of kickers which are more expensive. I'd rather spend some more money for a better sound system.

Anybody recommend any other good speakers?

yeah crutchfield is real legit. thats where i picked up my head unit and two amps.
i think they use 5 1/4" speakers for both front and rear (i used to drive one of those).

personally i've used JL (love them they're in right now), rockfords (pretty good), Kickers (I didn't really like the  sound. couldn't quite place what was wrong, they just felt off), and pioneers (decent for a 30 dollar pair of speakers...).

with that i've heard good things about alpine speakers, and stay away from sony. from the ones i've heard they all sound like shit, and i've also heard sony has some quality issues.

I'm horrible at wiring and the speakers have to get hooked up to the amps and the head unit so I wouldn't do it myself. Anyways, theres a shop near me that gave me a decent price for the speakers and installation and I would much rather support a small business and have their warranty on the installation then me fucking it up somehow.

My car came standard with rockford speakers but the guy before me replaced the rear door speakers with boston and left the front stock. I wanna replace all four because I've recently acquired a decent amount of cash and I'd like to have a consistent sound all the way through my car.

alpine, especially type r, are really nice. infinity kappa or whatever are supposed to be really good as well, i havent seen many bad reviews for them.

Don't waste your money on having somebody install speakers for you. Crutchfield.com could not make it any easier. I recently ordered a new head unit and 2 sets of speakers from them. I had never installed any sort of car audio equipment before and with the instructions they send, had it done in under 2 hours (most of which was for the head unit). Speakers are literally two clips and screwing them into the door panel.


Also, I got the low-end pioneer speakers (5-1/2"). They sound ok, but I wish I would have upgraded to a nicer pair, just an FYI. Read lots of reviews.

The only thing that is keeping me from doing that is that the amps are mounted in a trunk compartment and the wiring goes all underneath the carpet which means i'd have to take out the rear seats and a whole bunch of other shit.

I am not positive on this, but I don't think that you would. Just unhook the current speakers and replace with new ones. You shouldn't have to rewire anything back to head unit/amp if you are just replacing speakers.

I may be way off on this, but it's not like you are running new wiring. If I were you, I would call up crutchfield (800-555-7032) and talk to them about what you have in mind. They will tell you exactly what you need to know. They are super legit, and they won't pressure you into buying something you don't need/want.

I put in new front door speakers in my jeep, I put in rockford fosgate speakers... They were relatively cheap and are a 6 1/2 in sub with a  tweeter in the middle of em. They sound sick. As for subs, get kickers, I love my 12'' CVR's

you won't have to re-wire anything though. it's like putting a lightbulb in, you unscrew the old one, and screw in the new one.

in stead of a screw though it's two wires, and they'll be labeled for you. also, it has been said, but crutchfield will send you step by step instructions. and most likely the only tools you'll need will be a phillips screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, and maybe some electric tape.

it really doesn't make sense to have someone do it for you when it'll probably take a couple hours to replace all of the speakers. maybe find a friend whose done this before if you really need.
