Dear Friends and Family,
I am writing this letter to you to ask a favor, I need help in raising money for my Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. On August 6, I will join more than 6,000 other cyclists in the 32nd Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, a bike-a-thon that raises money for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. This spectacular event plans on raising more than $34 million this year by donating 100% of all rider raised funds to the DFCI. The PMC holds the promise of helping eradicate this disease which affects millions each year.
Why am I doing this ride you might ask? My family that I am writing to is aware, while my friends may not be. I, along with twenty other riders, ride in memory of our great friend, my uncle, Don ‘The Captain’ Govoni Jr.
Uncle Donny was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer know as Urachal Carcinoma in early 2008. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer before passing away on August 2, 2009, the Monday before our annual ride. His passing was the last straw for me, I realized it was time to pick up the spandex and join The Captain’s Crew. I will find that the training and the ride are small tasks compared to the pain a cancer patient goes through.
Now comes your part, I would like you to please consider making a donation to support my participation in The Pan Mass Challenge. Please be as generous as you can and know that 99 cents of every dollar raised will go towards Dana Farber's Jimmy Fund. Donations to the Pan Mass Challenge are 100% tax deductible. In an effort to raise as much money as possible it maybe worthwhile to see if your company will match your donation.
