I am still in the growing period of my life and dont want to spend $400 on full tilts that will fit me for one year and then I will just out grow them. So I want to know if there are other good boot companies out there that arent to expense but still make good quality boots. K+ for help :)
Make sure they fit. No room to move around. You want your foot as locked in as possible. If they don't fit you'll be out $200 and your whole season will be hell.
Every boot company makes awesome boots, you just get what you pay for. A $400 Atomic boot is going to be better quality than a $200 Salomon, which doesn't necessarily mean that Atomic is better than Salomon. As you spend more money, you get nicer plastics, better fitting liners, and more durable components (stronger buckles etc). Spend the maximum that you can afford and get what fits your feet, your leg shape, has a flex that matches your ankle flexibility and weight range. Then you will have an awesome boot.
This means that your foot does not fit exactly in the shell- getting a new liner will not solve your problem. And don't get a wider boot just to solve a small problem area. You only need to do a couple of things to make this boot fit well:
1. get a good aftermarket footbed. A footbed creates an interface between your foot and the boot & prevents your foot from moving inside the boot while you ski.
2. After you have stabilized your foot with the footbed, then get the shell ground or stretched to fit the exact contours of your foot.
Get a nice footbed, have the boot shaped to match the unique curves in your foot and you will have a super comfortable boot that skis WAY better than simply getting a wider boot.
the shop should be able to blow out your boots for you. That's its called when you have them heated and shaped to the contour of the foot. The store I work at does it for customers or people who have purchased there boots at the store. But i'm sure if you don't act like an ass they should hook you up...
any reputable shop should be equipped to properly fit boots and that includes shell modification. they should also be able to recomend a good footbed for you
