Marker dukes

I am planning on getting a JJ this upcoming season and i have no clue what to put on it for binding. i probably wont be skiing much backcountry this year but i really want to get into it in the upcoming years.

so my question to you is are the dukes a sufficient binding to ski inbounds and maybe just some hike to terrain. I have heard good and bad things about them. i am one who likes to have fun in the pow and i heard that the dukes arent really made for jibbing in pow.

any help would be appreciated.

depends on how much touring you'll be doing. if it's not something you'll be doing a lot (which is what it sounds like for you), I'd recommend getting some better bindings and using trekkers.

I agree. Get a more solid binding and a pair of Alpine Trekers. I've seen more Markers break than any other in my shop. I like the salomon STH series cuz its got such a light step in, or the look/rossi/dynastars cuz if you cant get the heel down in soft snow you can help it in cuz its so big. Another thing to look at maybe is an MFD plate. it allows you to convert any binding into an AT binding, but its pricey. Dont forget if you get an AT binding you gotta get skins too and they are expensive, especially at that width.

yes i am not a fan of marker at all but they seem like a decent light touring binding for not a bad price. I will probably end up getting some looks, since they are on all of my other skis.

I'm still undecided on those MFD plates, guess I'll just have to sack up and try one

They're really good (as far as I've seen from reviews), but super heavy (like one pound each or something) and really expensive.

yeah they weigh about 1.25 pounds each, which is lighter than trekkers (2 pounds each). but they are actually lower than a pair of dukes which would be nice, I hear they give you the feeling of the bindings mounted on them instead of them themselves

yes dukes will work in bounds fine, they are a little more raised then a normal binding which i don't really like, but really isn't a problem. they are heavy though over 5lbs a pair. they sound good for what you are doing. i am personally over the weight for touring getting a dynafit setup for next year.
