I thought it was more of just a chronicle of MBW came to such prowess i didnt think it was calling him a sell out or anything although Remy (or whatever the fuck his name was) was kid=nd of a douche when i got near the show so it may have made it seem like he was casting remy in a harsh light

"Mr brainwash" never existed (in fact, I googled it after I saw the movie in theaters and there were no results of his art shows or anything. now there is a bunch of bullshit though), it was a pseudonym created by Bansky and shepard fairey because they wanted to make a point about how often there style of work is copied.

I wish this shit was common knowledge, I hate talking to people that think this movie is serious.

I have been into graff and street art for a while, so the first sign was the fact that a person like banksy even made a documentary about himself, it seemed strange to me. Second was when I saw this Mr Brainwash dude working so closely with banksy and sheppard fairey I had wondered why I have never heard of him before so I did a search when I got home (this was a day after the movie came out) on google and there was absolutely nothing. Not about his shows, no website, no google images stuff.

to all the people hating on this guy, i have heard the same thing

although i didnt look it up like he did there is much speculation that the whole movie was basically banksy messsing with people, article here-> http://www.fastcompany.com/1616365/banksy-movie-prankumentary

but on the other hand there was a statement by shepard fairey swearing to god that the movie was no hoax, the quote: I asked Fairey directly whether Mr. Brainwash was a hoax devised by Banksy. “I swear to god that’s not the case,” he said. “Banksy may not want me to say that but no, it’s not.”

if thats true than documentary would make a lot more sense. For artists who's work all have reason, or no reason at all (giving it reason) it would seem odd to end up with a documentary about a guy they can't decide how they feel about him and his work.

So what stuff do you think is fake? Is this Thierry dude not s Invaders cousin? Are all the shows he's done completely made up? I'm not saying that he's not partially a construct of Banksy and Shepard Fairey, but to me, it seems like he is at least partially real.

although outlandish, its a fairly difficult concept to grasp if you are not already somewhat immersed into the culture so it would do you good to watch it a second time.

Loved this documentary.

Just the right amount of subtlety in mocking those who are turning street art into a corporate business with no soul that those involved in that process might not realize they're being mocked. But it's obvious enough that pretty much everyone else can see it.

As for proof about Mr. Brainwash being fake, look around on the internet for shows, posters, tours, etc. He's really not active in the art world. His wikipedia page supplies some ideas and links to theories about who he is as well. I can't remember specific points, but after watching the film I looked around for proof that he was real and came away convinced that the whole thing was a prank pulled by Banksy.

ill jump in and offer my view if its cool.

from my understanding MBW is real just like the character Borat is real, if that makes sense. there are MBW exhibitions, but hes basically a real life troll exposing people who buy into street art without really understanding its culture or the message that the artists are trying to send.

dude its just because he is IN the graff scene. we just know the whole scene better than you, and we just know these things because its a huge part of the graff scene. it would be like you and the things you know about skiing. you wouldnt be able too pick out an exact article about how you know something, you just know.
