147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

By all accounts of logic, they should not be in the race at all. Their situation through the first half of the season into February indicated a team that was falling apart at the seams and was destined for a high draft pick.

There were some other pretty huge hits from that game too right? they were showing some highlights during intermission and post game - wish i had two tv's

I'm glad Buffalo won and I want them to make the playoffs but that tying goal at the end was complete ass-hattery by the ref. Embarassingly bad officiating. Blow the whistle. Burke must have been throwing things at the ice.

if komisarek wasnt worried about shoving Foligno's face into the ice maybe that big pile wouldnt have happened.  That being said, you can see the puck bouncing around.  Also the ref was really close so if he didn't call it then he saw the puck.  it was nowhere near the goalie, it was near foligno for a while honestly.  The goalie never covered it so the ref did his job. 

Obviously being a sabres fan i'm biased. 

With that being said, I can almost guarantee if Komisarek didn't take Foligno down and hold him down the Sabres probably would not have scored, Great celebration by Foligno aimed toward Komisarek.

Dude had no clue where the puck was and had no idea it went in until everyone raised their hands in celebration. I have never seen a scrum like that allowed to go on for so long. It should've been blown dead. And I hate the leafs. But if that happened to my team in the playoffs or something I'd be so, so pissed.

if you watch the replay, the overhead view shows that the goalie never had it and it was bouncing around.  I'd be pissed too if it was the other way, but the players on the leafs didn't argue at all so if they aren't arguing it's probably a good goal. 

Leafs can't blame the refs for that though, they blew enough leads in that game.

from the replays i've seen, the ref was in perfect view to see that the goaltender did not have the puck, and that apart from being under a leaf player very briefly he could see the puck. he made the right call.

Reminds me of something similar that happened earlier this year to Montreal.

i cant tell if you really think that is the same or are kidding...

In the goal last night you can see the goalie MAY have had his glove on the puck for not even half a second.  then he lifted his glove and it was near folignos face, then it got kicked and it was under lombardi?he wasnt down but was on his hands and knees(not covered), then leopold saw it sitting under lombardi and hit it in.  The goalie never had possession of it and the ref was right there following it.

I think the Canucks have an awesome chance at the presidents, we should be able to pull wins out of Calgary and Edmonton, New York has a tougher schedule with Pittsburgh and Washington, especially considering how important these games are to those two teams

Doughty has now publicly said that the LA Kings are motivated to win both games of their home at home with the Sharks. Why are they so motivated? To win the Pacific division and secure home ice? No sir. He says what they're playing for is... drum roll...

The opportunity to knock the San Jose Sharks out of the playoff picture.

I'm actually starting to feel really bad for the leafs, it's getting hard to make fun of them.
I wish both the habs and leafs had solid teams that both made the playoffs.. It's not good for the league to have two of the most storied franchises sitting at the bottom of the standings.

Bitter over last year still Drew? Where were you when your team was up 4-0 and you allowed SJ to come back so swiftly eh? Where were you during The Failure on Figueroa? Go back to your hole...

...The way the Sharks and Kings are battling these days, Its going to probably be a split home-home. Playoff hockey comes early this year for both teams. I'm pumped. I expect at least one Shootout victory in the final two games, as well.

...as for knocking SJ out by winning the next two? Nashville can put SJ in, just by winning its next two games. The Kings do not control the Sharks destiny whatsoever.

...Le Centre Belle and the ACC are going to sell out every game, and make profits every season, playoffs or not. Goes for pretty much every Canadian team.

Teams in the South East, New Jersey, and many points west need the playoffs in order to build their fanbases - as they are (San Jose, St. Louis, Nashville, Pennsylvania franchises, New Jersey - you cannot tell me that those fanbases would sell out as much as they do if it weren't for consistent playoff appearances - even Tampa Bay and Carolina can show up on this list. Even Phoenix is somehow generating fans now (but they'll still probably move) after the last few years of making the playoffs.

As far as growth of hockey is concerned, having these other franchises outside of Canada (or at least outside of the bigger Canadian markets in MTL and TO make the playoffs is not a bad thing for the league - even if Canadians think this is downright blasphemy to read.

I completely agree with what you're saying. Like you said, playoff appearances are much more important to non-traditional market teams. What I meant with "good for the league", is that it's always good to have intense rivalries and big fanbases in the playoffs, in the sense that it draws a lot of attention from many people around North America.
There should be a fair balance between playoff matchups that cater to small market teams and bigger markets. I definitely like the fact that some teams in non traditional markets have increased their fanbases thanks to strong performances and I wish the yotes would draw more fans. There would definitely be more viewers during a Leafs vs Detroit final than a Dallas vs Florida.
I hope I'm not sounding like a self entitled fan for wanting bigger fanbases in the playoffs, but you can probably catch what I'm trying to say.

No, I understand. Colorado - Florida was probably the worst Stanley Cup finals of all time. (least if it weren't for the Rats on the ice, that is - Colorado wasn't a traditional market yet, seeing as they were still pretty much just the Nordiques in 90's colours)

Calgary - Tampa Bay
Edmonton - Carolina
Anaheim - Ottawa

Those are awesome matchups in the finals.

I'd like to see teams like Nashville, St. Louis, of course San Jose, and even the Kings as weird as it sounds.

...only if the Leafs have a black guy though...

I wish for this too.  If they managed to get matched up against each other...this city would be livid.

It's not that bullshit a call, high sticking doesn't have to hit you in the face, just "above the shoulders". Looks like it caught him in the shoulder. It's wrong but it's excusable. And everyone in the league throws their head back to sell that call, it happens twice a game.

Typical Bruins fans, complain about something that happens every game as if it's some sort of horror that has never been seen before. No, you just haven't seen it before because you were busy watching the Sox.

Meanwhile in St Louis,



I say no suspension, was boarding and from behind, but a major is the right punishment for that hit.

Regardless of the teams involved its still pathetic to see a player embellish a call like that..pev should have had his stick on the ice anyways, no need to even put yourself in that situation when youre already on the PP..its just embarrassing for letang

That was a throw away game for the b's anyways all they had to do was play the game without sustaining any injuries but they couldnt even do that because manchuck knocked knees with asham and his immediate future seems iffy at best

Yeah, I agree it was a bad call, I'm just saying it's no worse than the bad calls you see in a lot of games. There are some instances of absolute bullshit officiating that take place on a pretty regular basis in the NHL that are really worth complaining about. That's not one of them.
