I'm not really BLAMING the game on a penalty call, if you can't score during the other X minutes then you don't deserve to win anyway. But I am bemoaning the general tendency of the refs to not call anything, and when they DO call penalties, they're bullshit phantom calls. For the record, the Wild had 2 pp's in that game - the other was a goalie interference call on Hansen. Problem? Replay showed Hansen never touched the goalie. That's embarassing for the refs. The fact that they're also not calling the REAL penalties (that game featured a high stick to Kesler's throat that went undetected) makes the bad calls even WORSE. Their inability to do their jobs with a basic level of competence may not have DECIDED the game, but it certainly influenced the outcome.
And I'm just sick to death of how shitty officiating in this league has become. It seems to have gotten twice as bad the past couple of years. It's not even homerism anymore, I get centre ice so I can watch the Jets and a couple of EC teams I like to follow (Sabres and Bolts) as well as any game that looks like it'll be a good one. I swear it's at a point where more than 50% of the games, I'm thinking, the refs are visibly and significantly damaging the quality of the product that's being presented.
You can be as happy as you like, I just find it baffling. That team is brutal to watch, it's like the 05-06 Oilers when they made their playoff run, which was exciting for their fans because they were huge underdogs (and I was pulling for 'em) but just awful, terrible hockey to watch. I wasn't talking so much about your season (which was basically like an escalator to nowhere where they got to the top in December and then fell 10,000 feet once their possession numbers actually caught up to them), but more about the style of play. I will beg and plead for any realignment plan that sees the Canucks play more against watchable teams.
Shane Doan got 3 games for his elbow on Benn. How many does Keith get for this one?
I'm saying 3 games. Doan got 3 but there was no injury to Benn. Daniel left the game and will not return. However, Doan has been suspended before. If it's revealed afterwards that there was a concussion on the play it might be more.
