Kronwall is a master of timing - which he needs because he jumps into hits. If he does it on time and makes contact first, it's clean, but if he mistimes it it's charging. Pretty hard to do consistently.
TJ Oshie is not one of the top 5 hitters in the league. That is a joke. Last game I watched he bounced off a referee. You MUST be talking about Backes.
Cal Clutterbuck deserves to be on there. Jordin Tootoo has game. Callahan, Kaleta, Fistric, all throw a lot of sizeable hits. Lucic.
since you asked politely ,
guy who you trust to not let the puck go in your net while making sure the puck goes in their net.
you dont have to put the puck in the next yourself, but it's all about the transition game. the forwards dont even matter if your defenseman can't make great outlet passes and control the other team's forecheck.
to play good defense, it should be expected that you play the body hard and don't get beat 1 on 1, play physical, block shot, and clear rebounds. get your body into the shooting lanes, keep an active stick, all that.
while still being able to generate offense, have great vision of the ice, and take shots when shots are due. some of the better offensive defenseman out there know when to shoot, know when to pass, know when to look for the tips, know when to shoot the puck wide of the net to have it bounce off the boards into a dangerous area, and know when to not pinch and back the fuck up and play d.
karlsson can do some of that, but not all of it. shea weber does all of that.
i'd gladly take a guy that gets a few less points but is more defensively responsible.
ahem, pavel datsyuk come to mind? doesn't get the most points among forwards out there, but he plays defense too, not to mention he's extremely skilled. probably the most skilled player in the game today. i'd also pick him over a guy like spezza, who will finish with more POINTS but is a defensive liability.
and yes, green had a better season than karlsson is having. 73 points in 68 games with 31 goals. +24, 18 pp goals, a short hander, a 12% shooting percentage. even in his next year, green had 76 points in 75 games with 19 goals and was a +39.
but like karlsson, green wasn't a complete defenseman, so he lost the norris both years.
points aren't everything, brah. get learned.
i'm liking the videos of the hits. surprised how quickly most of those guys pop back up after taking hits like that.
but being a goalie, Patrick Roy's kind of a badass..i used to do this stuff when i got the chance.
... Are 5-4-1 in their last 10 and only 3 points ahead of the Senators for the division lead. So... not really enough said, then?
Emelin hit was simultaneously amazing and hilarious. Don't hate on Seto for the shootout fail; he had 2 points in the third including the game tying goal with 9 seconds left. Not his bad.
Canucks 4th line was scary good yesterday. Usually if Max Lapierre is your best player you LOSE a game, you don't shut out the 2nd place team in the conference.
hey fuck you man i bleed blue
honestly, ever since witnessing joe carter's home run in game 6 of the 93 world series, i just have to be a toronto fan. i was at that game, and i was 7 years old. i still remember it. my dad still tells me story about how it was so overwhelming with cheers and noise that i was crying the whole time. hahaa.
but any way, a change had to be made. it's too bad, but you can't really fire the team. firing the coach serves as a little kick in the rear end to all the players.
