147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

i'm in a fantasy pickle atm, going anywhere for an answer: my goalies are jimmy howard, corey crawford and bryzgalov. tonight, detroit's playing in chicago and phily's playing winnipeg. i can play two goalies. i'm pretty sure i'm gonna play bryz, so should i play jimmy against corey or corey against jimmy. detroit's won 6 straight, chicago's won 3 straight, but jimmy's been out for over a week, and corey's got home ice.

someone who knows hockey better than me give some killer advice.

At this point in time he wont be inducted to the HoF, his number will no doubt be retired by the team, thats a given.
but i feel that if he is gonna get HoF consideration he's gotta win a cup at least.

Fuckin nailbiter man, so much pressure at the end of the third I was pulling my hair out. Took over in OT though. Good to see the flyers heatin up like that in a pressure situation and taking the win. Great way to start a road trip.

Yeah... hopefully it will be welcoming. We still have 3 games on this road trip, and I'm not sure if we can even take 2 out of the 3 remaining.

Not sure if someone posted a link to the players poll yet but its always cool to here how the players view their peers


Heres a small excerpt of the voting....who was the one saying pavel is underrated?

Cool to see the bruins get top 3 toughest players in the league by a wide margin

lol at the nucks being voted the most overrated team

  • Pavel Datsyuk was voted in the top spot for six different results, including the smartest player and the hardest to take the puck from
  • Marian Gaborik was again voted by his peers as the best skater, as well as the fastest
  • Patrice Bergeron earned the nod from the players as the most underrated, while his teammate Zdeno Chara was overwhelmingly voted the toughest defenceman to play against; meanwhile, Milan Lucic earned the top spot for toughest player, narrowly edging out teammates Chara and Shawn Thornton
  • Henrik Lundqvist was convincingly voted as the most difficult goalie to score on
  • Nicklas Lidstrom was named the best role model, followed closely by Sidney Crosby

and making it to game 7 of the stanley cup finals...thats why i was laughing cause im not sure how they apply to being overrated - probably has more to do with how many players dislike the team

That's what OTHER fans do. Now that Montreal is sadly not going to make the playoffs, I'm cheering for Toronto to not make the playoffs.

Not really, considering only the Red Wings have been able to win the Presidents trophy and come up with Le Coupe Stanley thereafter, within the last 12 years. Since 85, only 7 teams have won both.

I really don't think it means jack squat in the longrun. It might not be cursed, but it shows how true it is that you can be the best team during the regular season, but the Playoffs are a whole other animal. When San Jose won it a few years ago, I thought little of it other than we had home ice advantage through the playoffs.

...see where that got us? See where that got Vancouver?

First of all, that's not the point. The point is, is the team overrated. At the very least finishing #1 in the regular season signifies that a team is really really good. They may not be the best team in the league but they're top 5. The survey is essentially a media parrot. No Bruins were top 5 toughness in last year's survey. Now they have 3? It's about exposure and popularity. "Most overrated" might as well be "most disliked".

The other thing though, is "See where that got Vancouver". Um, it got them to within one game of the cup. That's pretty god damned good. It's a hell of a lot better than 28 other teams. Sure, it's disappointing, but it's not like you can call that a failed season. If they'd lost game 7 to Chicago in rd1, that would have been a failure.

I wouldn't say its a failed season, other than the fact that, well... they failed to win the cup like every other team not based in beantown - but getting slammed in game 7 in Vancouver is a good example of why home-ice advantage on it's own is overrated, and why the presidents trophy in itself is downright overrated.

as for the survey... I feel like it was almost mocked up by Jack Edwards. Bergeron the toughest? Chara the hardest Dman to play against? Why not just say Tom Brady is the best at quarterbacking the power play, and Kevin Garnett is a master at putting rebounds in the back of the net while you're at it..

No they don't. Habs need to work on rebuilding. That starts with firing that idiot of a GM and finding someone with an actual vision for how the team should be rebuilt. "Working on not sucking" sounds like the philosophy that has led to the last 8 or so seasons of Calgary Flames hockey.

Like Guy Carbonneau, IMO he was a good coach. I like when they have canadien coaches, especially when they're team veterans.

Steve Downie's first game with the Av's.

Interesting trade with Quincy going to TB who then flipped him to Detroit for a 1st.

In Colorado a lot of people are heated because they would rather have the 1st, but according to Av's GM they initiated the trade to get Downie. What I find odd about this is in my opinion he's not a Top 6 forward who the Av's have plenty of (Duchene, Statsny, Jones, O'Reilly, Hejduk, and Landeskog) and while Downie is great for a 3rd line they traded away a solid defender for a 3rd liner.

Av's plan is now to bring up Elliott or Barrie two small, offensive minded prospects to replace Quincey. Not sure that's what a team like the Av's needs...they could use a few more nasty shut you down defenders.

Yeah, he's really tried his best.  Even with all the people hating on him for speaking french (which I don't agree on). 

but yeah, I agree on the whole rebuilding.  They should ship campoli or kostisyn at the very least for some picks.  Time to sell to team that will overpay! 

Keep building that core with Price, Pacioretty,  Pleky, Cole, Subban, Leblanc, Eller, Emelin, Markov (if he ever plays) and hopefully a resigned Moen.

Pretty damn huge game tonight. What baffles me is that I checked the broadcasting schedule and it appears it's not going to be on NBC sports. You'd think the two top teams in the west would be a prime time game, right

Top two teams in the league actually - whoever wins moves into first in the NHL. But I think the broadcast schedule (in terms of who has the rights to what games) is set before the season even starts. I'm pretty pumped, going to have a nice dinner and chill out and watch it. Hoping it goes down to the wire, maybe OT, hopefully not shootout (hate that crap).

dont you want to see the wings NOT get a point? they'd hold onto first place with that.

i imagine it will be very close though, unless luongo doesn't show up. 2-1 detroit (i still dont see them losing at home). though, it could be like 3-0 in the first period for detroit if luongo is having one of those days..

Hell it could be 3-0 the other way. You never know. And I don't really care about the point, I mean I might regret saying that down the road but for tonight I just want to see the two best teams in the conference play like it.
