Favourite comment from last night: "Advanced stats, like Ottawa Senators fans, are real even if you don’t believe in them."
Also I bet a leafs fan on that game, won myself a Cuban cigar of my choosing... any suggestions or should I just insist on his favourite so that it will forever remind him of his team getting smoked?
I actually don't know if he was serious or mockingly referencing the argument that "oh the riot? That was all people from Surrey". Which speaking as someone who was actually THERE when the riot started isn't that far off the mark really.
Anyway the point is that some complete idiot with a can of paint isn't really representative of Canuck fans. If you want true, honest to god picture of what hardcore canuck fans are like read the comments on PassItToBulis.
No one, hey... Hey you know how the Wings have been out-of-their-mind good the last 10 or 15 games? Amazingly they're only the second hottest team in the NHL right now. The Canucks are 10-0-3 in their last 13, and they're coming to the Joe on Thursday.
Assuming the Canucks beat the Preds and the Wings beat the Hawks, you'll have a team that's undefeated in regulation and overtime in their last 14 games, coming in to take a shot at stopping the streak... Game of the week? I think yes.
Hopefully the Canucks don't look past the Preds tonight, though. It could easily happen. They beat the piss out of the Oilers and Leafs in back to back games over the weekend and could end up getting complacent.
See the thing is I'd rather play either of those teams than the Sharks. I think the Blues are a better team than the Sharks but it's their first year. It's like the Canucks of two years ago when they lost to the eventual cup champ Hawks. The Canucks that year weren't ready - they were a better team than the Hawks and should have been up 3-1 in that series but the Hawks had been battle-hardened, so to speak, from duking it out with the Red Wings in the west finals the year before and losing. So they won. Nashville, meanwhile, just doesn't have the offense to beat the Canucks or Wings I think - Rinne would have to steal the series completely and I don't see it happening.
I think STL needs this year to come to grips with playoff life. Maybe Arnott and Langenbrunner give them enough veteran leadership to make that unnecessary but I still think the Sharks are the tougher out. The only thing that could make that not the case, I think, is if their goaltending issues don't sort themselves out. I think they'll be fine - Niemi is good in the postseason. Not great, but steady and pretty reliable. And if you ask the Wings, after the past two seasons I think they'd rather avoid the Sharks if possible, and vice versa I guess.
