Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

its really not that uncommon. if the pucks under you and youre in front of your net you arent going to just get up. he wasnt holding the puck he swept it under himself and didnt get up. happens a lot

Ya this i dont really see it as a pussy move...i saw it as a pretty big risk to take a penalty with :30 seconds left to face a 6v4...worked out for them tho

...AHL players that have been playing pretty goddamn well this year, and have a legitimate shot at the playoffs IMO.

Title: Bruins Expose NHL for What It Is

You know the more I think about it the more I think the Bruins have the NHL figured out.

They KNOW they can get away with stuff... probably on every shift because there is NO WAY they'll get called for everything. They also know that these hacks/wacks/etc. add up and erode the oppositions will to be disciplined which will lead to breaks for them. They also don't mind that and injury or two may occur which is also a bonus for them.

As an added Bonus they know that the NHL, on average, likes to EVEN out the game in regards to PP chances so regardless of how many penalties they take they know they'll get close to the same amount and that there will be make-up calls.

So it's a frickin' win-win-win for the B's.

The Boston Bruins have exposed the systematic game management that the NHL employs to maintain parity and are exploiting it at every turn.

Something has to be done about they way the NHL is officiated and cracking down on the Bruins-goon-squad would be a great start.

So are most of the mouthbreathers cheering for Boston, so don't feel too bad... It's hard to develop any understanding of the game when Jack Edwards is the asshole explaining it to you. Man I would've loved to hear what he had to say during this one.

Hilarious to hear B's fans whining about the refereeing when total PM's for the game were 55 to 52 and a missed icing essentially gift wrapped them a goal. Here's the thing - you went 0 for 7. That's why you lost. Just like the main reason the Canucks lost the cup final was going 2 for 33.

That being said, the refereeing was a joke in this game for a totally different reason. This game managed to demonstrate pretty clearly that the officiating in the regular season and playoffs are COMPLETELY different, which is a problem. You can't have two sets of rules depending on what time of year you're playing.

In any event, it was exciting, and Thomas played well. Schneider too, though he had a couple of jittery moments. I was in the camp of "this is a bad idea" in re: starting Schneids before the game, largely because it's Luongo's team. But if they are going to keep him for the playoffs, he needs to play in energy games like this. I don't remember if we have any more Hawks games left but he should start the next one of those, if we do.

One thing, Alex Edler was godawful. One of the worst games I've seen from him and the compete level of the Bruins really exposed his lack of effort. A nice slap pass goal and a block in the dying seconds weren't enough to take the sour taste out of my mouth after yelling at Vigneault to bench him in the 3rd.

Lucic will not get suspended. Marchand should be suspended but I doubt he will be. If he is, the fact that he's Brad Marchand will make it so. Lot of dirty play from B's players tonight but that was approaching "intent to injure" territory.

Irregardless.... Look at their schedule and how many long roadtrips they have coming up.

...I don't see Winnipeg lasting too long playing around the world in 80 days from now on. Would still be sweet to see them make the playoffs though...

yep, good for him. always been a fan of him as a player, cant say the same about his team though haha.

and 1000th game for olli jokenin (no idea how to spell that), super long ceremony pre flames game but i suppose 1000 games is a pretty damn long time to be playing in the nhl.

See here's the problem: you don't seem to have any idea what you're talking about. "Whining about refereeing" refers to the standard tactic of the homer to bitch after losing a game that the reffing was one-sided and helped the other team. What I did was point out that there were bad calls going in both directions but it was ludicrous to say that the errors in refereeing were one-sided and led to a Bruins' loss. Whining about refereeing would look something like "I can't believe the refs gave Jannik Hansen and Dale Weise even-up penalties for getting mugged and refusing a fight". I don't agree with those calls, but I'm not complaining about them; bad calls happen every game and this game was a shitshow to the extent that I'm overall in the "props to the refs" department for doing what they could to keep the chaos in check.

And Boston fans are Red Sox and Patriot fans first and foremost, the sheer volume of people who know nothing about the sport but are REALLY REALLY SURE that every opposing player who draws a penalty must have dove for it and that every dirty play by a Bruin is just good old-time hockey makes me balk at the idea that people could ever consider Habs, Leafs of Canuck fans smug by comparison.

This whole Boston vs. Vancouver bullshit is becoming seriously tiring - from both sides.

The game was a good one. The Refs didn't screw either team over more than the other, and it was a fair battle. It ended 4-3. Fans of both sides, go back to your regularly scheduled season...

I'd say a cup rematch is an extremely slim chance at this point...

I fully expect Boston to go out in the 2nd round come playoff time. Probably to the Capitals who will ride Vokoun through at least 3 rounds. Either that or they will face the Rangers and will start a new trend of a Boston side losing to a New York side...

Vancouver will likely get matched up with a Kings or Blues team in full stride... Either that or they'll have a go against Detroit and have to face off against their lightsaber wielding team... They will forget that Howard's weakness is getting sprayed in the face, and the whole team will get Kronwall'd.


If I was to put money down right now, I'd say San Jose throws down the gauntlet and becomes Chicago 2010 all of a sudden (Just because I'm feeling homerish right now ;D )... and the Rangers roll like it was 1994... until they realize they don't have a Messier type character with nostrodamus prediction skills... and will then poop the bed.

Blues are at least a season and probably 2-3 away from winning anything and should be content with an appearance in the 2nd round. Wings are still fading and will make a tough out every year but they just don't have it anymore in terms of taking out the other contenders; if they get home ice or 5th they'll be in good shape to get to round 2 but then all bets are off. The Blackhawks are a big threat to win the conference, but they're not as good as they're making themselves look right now; they're playing above their own heads. Sharks are too inconsistent to be able to tell WHAT they'll do by the time playoffs roll around, they could fold in 5 games in round 1 or coast through the first two rounds. Same with the Kings in re inconsistency but I don't think they'll have an easy time of it no matter who they play even if they win, and if they do manage to claw their way through to RD3 they'll be exhausted. The Canucks are the same team as last year plus a David Booth and a much better version of Cody Hodgson (which has resulted in a much improved 2nd PP unit), and whether they're healthy - plus Luongo - will determine how far they go in the West.

Amen to that, this needs to be repeated. Fuckin Briere with a hat trick and a fight to take the sens on saturday. 5 seconds left in OT and he scores the third to win it. We were going nuts. 3rd career fight, he's such a little guy, holy rapid rabbit punches with the left.

Sunday game sounded pretty exciting too, until we shit the bed in the third. At least klazo got to see a win at home.

It's good to see a lot of our guys from last year heating up. Hartnell has been kicking ass lately, I mean he's almost tied with giroux for goals.

With a much improved defense this year, and mostly the same team as last year, I don't see them Going out before round 3 unless they face Chicago or Vancouver in the first 2 rounds.

I'd say San Jose's inconsistencies are on par with the rest of the league's title contenders. They have been much more balanced on all sides of the puck this year from what I've seen, and their special teams are finally starting to not be the suck as they were early on in the season (I'm looking at you, penalty kill..). They are far more dangerous from the blueline than they have ever been - and that's huge considering their ineptitude the last few years.

That said, the playoffs will show directly how the additions of Burns, Havlat, and Handzus effect the rest of the team. Barring any serious injuries (Havlat, don't let me down again please), I have all the faith in the world that this is the best Sharks team constructed since the lockout year - when we didn't get a chance to use it.

i sure hope marchand gets suspended today. dirty play from a dirty player. when was the last time sami salo did anything dirty that would require a player to "defend" them self in that manner? when was the last time sami salo even made a big a hit? salo is not that kind of player, marchand is a little prick for hurting one of the cleanest players in the game.
