147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

they arent part of the original 6 because they werent in the nhl during all those years when there were only 6 teams...

Right, so there's no way they can be part of the original 6. But why did they have to recreate the senators. Couldnt they have just picked up where they left off?

The NHL was founded in 1917 and consisted of four teams; the Montreal Canadiens, the Montreal Wanderers, the Toronto Blueshirts and the Ottawa Senators. The Quebec Bulldogs made a brief apparition once the Wanderers' arena burned down (lol).

In the 20s, other teams got admitted to the NHL: the Boston Bruins, the New York Americans, the Philadelphia Quakers, the Montreal Maroons, the New York Rangers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Cougars and the Chicago Blackhawks.

As you know, the 30s were difficult economic times for many people in Canada and the United States. This affected the NHL as many teams had to resign and the same thing occurred during WW2.

The only teams that were left after 1942, are what we now call "The Original Six".
The Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maples Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit RedWings and the New York Rangers.

Basically, the reason why Ottawa isn't in the original 6 is because they weren't part of the league in 1942. The "new" senators didn't even come back with the original expansion (Philly, Pittsburg, Minnesota North Stars etc..) it was much later in 1990 that they stepped back in the league.

ok sorry i still dont understand what youre trying to ask though. ya they were in the league like reaaallly early on when it just started, but then they werent making enough money so they werent apart of it anymore. Then, the market got bigger i guess and they came back in the 1990's expansion. kinda like what happened with the jets i guess. thats it, really

ya there were teams before the original 6 but it kept changing. the league finally stayed to 6 teams for like 20-30 years or something and thats why theyre called the original 6

This is like asking why the Vancouver Canucks aren't part of the original six just because the Vancouver Millionaires won the Stanley Cup a hundred years ago. The original Senators and the current Senators may play in the same city but they are completely different hockey clubs and franchises. The current ones just adopted the old club's name for nostalgic purposes.

'Yotes got trolled tonight





Looks like the second line are finally getting it together, they looked really dangerous out there for the first two periods. Forechecking hard and just all over the place, not to mention the speed. Hodgson, again, just brilliant - shining, even with his 3rd line minutes and subpar wingers (not saying manny & hansen are bad players, just saying that hodgson would be playing with better players, if not for our depth). Schneids didn't face much, but back to back shutouts nevertheless. What an unfortunate (but also great) goalie situation we have at the moment... it must be keeping GMMG up at night.

Awww so bitter.

I don't know if we're in the shape to wn this tonight though, the consistency hasn't showed up yet. It's late this year. If it is there now and this 3 game win streak is evidence, then this is the first we've seen of it this year.

Sharks have had subpar Penalty Kill since... forever, it seems. I'm not surprised.

My assessment is the difference is goaltending. Schneider has been really good, while Niemi has been partly responsible for all 3 goals. First one he can't hang on to his stick and has no way to block the cross-crease bank in, doesn't happen if the paddle is down. Second goal he lets out a juicy rebound first, and let's face it he still should've had time to get across and stop the rebound which was a decent shot but very stoppable. Third goal was just a mess, get out of your crease.

Sharks forwards look really dangerous especially the Thornton line.
