eh i liked last years thread alot more. All this years finals were about were two hits and whether they were dirty or not, with kids screaming at each other about who knew more about hockey lmao. just randoms who just started watching because boston and vancouver made the finals and spewed nonsense

I'm pretty sure Ottawa has been consistently better than Toronto since it's been a team. In fact, this last year was one of only 4 years in the teams history they've done worse than Toronto.

And when was the last time Toronto won the President's Trophy, or made it to the finals??

This is guaranteed not to happen until at least the 2012-2013 season. And according to the NHL pecking order, the Red Wings get first dibs on the changeover. It'll be interesting to see what changes are made to the conferences (if any) when the NHL accommodates for Winnipeg though. Speculation says that the Jets will join the northwest and the Avs will drop down to the pacific and Dallas will go to the central.

I've always thought it'd be cool to go back to a Campbell/Wales format, like the National and American Leagues in baseball. I'd love to see a Habs-Leafs(as if) final someday.

meh im a habs fan, just live in the toronto area. pointless to argue history against montreal during the nhl era.

and Ottawa is rebuilding their team anyway, so chances are they wont be seen in the playoffs much until their time comes (same with Edmonton)

and i just hold a grudge against ottawa since in my first year of university there were so many shit talking ottawa fans who had nothing to back their talk up with last season

I'm aware it wont happen next year...

But I've also read several places that that whole 'first dibs' thing is a crock of crap, and isn't really true... that basically the Red Wings are just bitching louder about it and make it seem like they have dibs on an easterly move... when Columbus is just as worthy of the spot...

Unfortunately, I dont think anyone will be truely happy in this situation unless 2 more 'western' teams were put in play...

Say Seattle, Portland, or Milwaukee...

I feel like ever since the East-West alignment there's just been issues... and there's no good way to solve it... even by going back to the old formats, it's tough...

I'm already excited for next season. Montreal was arguably the closest team to beat Boston, as they lost the series by losing and intense game seven in overtime.
I really enjoyed lurking around the 2010/2011 thread even if I didn't post much. Hopefully this new thread will provide interesting news and debates.

yeah i know. nino is that dude.

altough id love to see nino in an isles jersey this season. id be just fine if he played another year in the WHL. kid is so young i dont want him rushed into the NHL. although i think nino is ready.

he didn't put up many points in his 9 games this year but he played real well. especially considering he was just 18. i didnt see any winterhawks games but i watched some highlights and kept up with ninos progress. i am glad to hear he is amazing on the PK because with nielsen, grabner and bailey adding another great PK man would be fucking awesome for the islanders.

id even be ok with the islanders trading down a few spots and getting nino's teammate and countryman Sven Bartschi. with streit that would make 3 swiss players on the team.

There's a big possibility of Jagr returning to the NHL. His picks are either Detroit, New York, Montreal, Washington and Pittsburgh.
I think he would make a great addition to the habs, but only if he signs a 1 year contract that doesn't exceed 2.5 mil. We need to remember that he's 39 but clearly has some juice left in his system.

To be honest I am too. I don't think he's coming back in the NHL to win the cup, he's coming back for the mere experience of playing in the NHL. I don't think he would be a good influence on the younger players.
He could also be the opposite, paired up with Plekanec would generate some chemistry as the two have played well together with the Czech Republic. Maybe the veteran could become a active mentor among the younger players.
I obviously would like Jagr over Pouliot but it all depends on how much Jagr wants. An overpaid past-his-prime player is the last thing Montreal needs.

means there are no bad teams, what are you fucking talkin about. What happened 10 years ago isn't relative to what happened in the past season, even a few seasons before that, sure you could have a few trades here and there of some picks and players, but give me a fucking break, use your brain.

Also, I'm not a Leafs fan, I live in the GTA during the summer, and montreal during the winter. I grew up a blackhawks fan and remain one, especially considering I have ties to the team through the London Knights. I also work in the sports industry for a team in the OHL and did work for a team in the Q until they were sold a few days ago.

Let me now talk about the past because it's all you care about, sure recent years, but you're talking about since Ottawa has been in the league they've been better. No one cares, it means nothing now.

Second, you saying they haven't done anything since the 60s, but with your logic, the past means everything, they've won more cups than the Sens, clearly making them the better franchise.

I wonder if Ottawa will celebrate their 20th anniversary, but then again they're like the Canucks, not much to celebrate when your franchise has never won anything...

Toronto has also been finished better, including the playoffs, 8 times since Ottawa shitty existence began. And has still yet to lose a playoff series to the Sens.

I can go on and on, I don't like the leafs, but I live in an area where it's all leafs all the time, and something I hate more than the Leafs (and the habs :) ) are the Senators and their moronic fans, i swear they give vancouver's 'fans' a run for their money.
