147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

not likely as we got rid of carcillo. watch out for that rinaldo fella though, he can certainly throw down. pretty ballsy wearing an opposing jersey into the locker room.

ya im really not worried about it, they definitely wont do anything. its not like im gonna go in there fuckin yelling and being a jackass about it, but im just not gonna act like i aint a habs fan just because im in their dressing room. i expect them to chirp me a lot, and i actually welcome it, what would be better than getting into a chirpfest with an entire NHL team? the answer is nothing

I wouldn't call Vancouver 'worthless'...

Same with Montreal... if they stay healthy theyre a playoff team for sure.

Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto, and Calgary however...

They've been looking pretty damn good I must say. I wanna say shelly is still out so no help from him I think. Giroux and jagr together are puttin on quite a show. Last two pre season games I watched where pretty fuckin exciting.

20 teams in our draft, snake format, I picked 4th overall so here are my picks.

Overall Pick # / Player

4. Daniel Sedin (obvious pick)

37. Claude Giroux (pretty happy to get him this late)

44. Alex Semin (sniped by the guy in front of me, wanted Heater but Semin is fine)

77. David Backes

84. Andrew Ladd (someone has to score for the Jets and now I have a reason to cheer for them)

117. Devin Setoguchi (since I got sniped on Heatley this is the consolation)

124. T.J. Oshie (have a good feeling, breakout time)

157. Tomas Fleischmann (expect him to get good minutes / pp time after signing for so much $)

164. Tim Connnolly (held my nose, hope he stays relatively healthy, if so he should do fine)

197. Magnus Paajarvi (only need 40 points, but he has a strong upside) 

Other guys I was thinking about taking in the last round: Marco Sturm, Darren Helm, Cam Fowler

Nice to have a goaltender huh?

It was good seein Jagr play last night...cant remember how many times I watched him growing up as a kid, dude doesnt look like he lost a step either..the stories they were telling about him having his own key to the rink just so he can keep practicing after the team finishes was amazing. so much respect for that guy

Marchmont definitely earning his $5M after last night that goal was pretty filthy, only to be topped by giroux's goal tho...he dangled chara like he was a school boy first time on the ice

hell yes it is, bryz looks like he's exactly what we needed. giroux's goal was awesome, and voraceks turn around to the 5 hole of timmy was a total surprise. Pretty nice to shut down Boston first game of the season, in their house no less. It's gonna be an exciting season.

Stayed up for most of the pittsburgh vancouver game too. Luongo chokes on the shootout haha.

bryz was on fire last night. that'd make me feel good about signing him for 9 years.

noseface and seguin were def. best for the bruins last night. i'm stoked to see more of seguin and what he can do. he's gonna have a breakout year for sure. i donno what was up with our 1st line last night though. they didn't even put a shot on net till the 3rd period (or really late in the 2nd, i can't remember but it was ridiculous). whatev, game 1. excited for tampa saturday.

how nice was it to see corvo actually SHOOTING the damn puck?? Christ its such a difference from watching kaberle just dick around with it up at the point and resulting in a turnover

I dont think they registered a few of his shots because of deflections/blocks but it was nice to see a glimpse into the future of his time here

Giroux's goal was amazing. Glad I picked him. 80 points isn't out of the question for him.

As for the Canucks game, it was a bit of a mixed bag.

In terms of the good... The first line looked like mid-season form and Henrik's backhand saucer pass through TWO PLAYERS was just dirty. Chris Higgins played like a man possessed and if we see that level of effort from him the third line will be one of, if not the best checking line in the league, because you know Hansen's going balls out whenever he gets on the ice. The fourth line looked pretty good, and much better than Canucks' fourth lines usually look. Ballard looked like he actually has confidence and skating legs, it was great to see that goal, and Hamhuis shows no indication he was ever hurt. Edler was physical and took a couple of hard shots. Coming back from 3-1 down against the Pens to get a point is actually pretty impressive.

The bad... Luongo looks like he'll have a rocky start again, two weak goals, and as usual he's terrible in the shootouts. Seriously, when it gets to a shootout they should immediately put in Schneider. He did have flashes of very good play but the weak goals... ugh. Also bad was the 2nd line. Hodgson actually got much better in the third and looked really dangerous but Samuelsson looked disinterested and Sturm was the worst player out there. Just brutal. The guys who have to play full-time this season after part-timing it last year, Tanev and Volpatti, looked a bit stuttery, but I guess that's to be expected.

sharks set the record for goals in an opener? that's tight. it was sick to see desjardins score, and handzus, who i still say is the most important offseason addition we made. stoked for the rest of the season. i feel like i still should be impatiently waiting for it to start though..

You have that organization completely misunderstood. Everyone fron the Head office to the 4th line is just playing their game and not saying shit. We'll see how we do. Its the rest of the Worst-case-Ontario fanbase whcih makes the team look bad and can frankly go to hell. Reminder: we went 4-0 last season then dropped 11 straight in October. No leafs fan in their right mind has any right to be cocky.

considering i live in the GTA, last year about 3/4 of the leaf fans i know where posting and saying stuff about planning the parade, while i know some of them were just trying to be funny a lot of them were very serious.

But i let them talk and brag because they will all be quiet by season end, another year without a playoff experience. Wilson has to go asap, and i wouldn't give Burke much more time.

Those would be the two worst decisions that team could make. Period. The Fan base in Toronto is sheer poison. Its half the reason for the Leafs' shitty record. Toronto, On-terrible is (with notable exception) largely a city of impatient, unrealistic, blind idiots who don't know shit about hockey outside of the Northeast division. Most teams Brian Burke has touched have turned to gold after his departure because of the foundation he's built. EX: Vancouver, Anaheim, He's a no BS hockey minded kind of guy. The other significant reason for their terrible position is Toronto's  running of the coaching/ general managership carousel, without an ounce of goddamned patience, trying to find someone who can scratch out a half decent year. They are only now beginnign to understand that success is built on time and investment... They're simply getting better. Playoff worthy? who knows maybe, maybe not. I'm not a "Theres always next year" Kind of leafs fan, I'm frustrated but I like to think i'm realistic. Changing the core of our team after this season would put us right back at square one watching Florida in the post-season and lamenting being the only team not to make playoffs since the lock-out.

I'm sorry but Wilson is not a good coach and is definitely on the ropes in TO, as he should be.
If you wanna look at Burke plz don't say he left Vancouver in a good position, he didn't. When he was in Vancouver he brought in a few good players and we made the playoffs but never went anywhere due to bad goal-tending (Cloutier) and a sub-par defense. We have the offense but the defense was not there. While in his tenure in Van he completely dismantled the farm team. Our farm team did not become good until about 6-7 years after Burke left.

In Anaheim a lot of the cup winning team was already in place, he brought in Pronger, who asked for a trade, and Neidermayer, who wanted to play with his brother. Burke did not build the Anaheim team he just made a few tweaks to push them over the top.

I'm not saying Burke isn't a bad gm, i just think he is a bad gm for Toronto. IMO he's not a GM that is good at rebuilding team but taking an already good team and making them a legit contender. I also hate how he handles the media, but that's just a personal thing.
