147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

Well they weren't going to resign him... his contract was up. Unless they performed a sign and trade (which is extremely rare in the NHL) there's no way they were going to get much more for his rights than a low case pick.

That said, still surprised no other teams stepped forth with a better offer than an extreme late rounder. There are plenty of teams that would love 2 years of Vokoun at 2 million. Surely... Hell, I'd have been happy to have him in teal for that price - it's what we've paid Nittymaki for the last 2 years anyways...

I'm not too sure about the signing, still kind of pissed that the coach NEEDS to speak French. Therrien is pretty decent though..

I hope Larry Robinson becomes the assistant coach as he's awesome.

I hope it goes 5 or 6 games so I can actually watch the cup presented on my tv, not a laggy web-stream on my slow-ass internet.

(Fuck you NBC Sports Network for only being in a much more expensive package, and fuck you NBC Network for not playing games 3 and 4 on network TV.)

...they should. It would be fucking pathetic to not actually have a cup raised on network TV in the country both teams are playing in, which are both in the largest network media markets.

That said, America on a whole just does not give a shit about hockey and the networks know they will get better ratings (ie - a higher advertising premium) by playing re-runs of old, recycled content.

It just sucks that the games are lumped into a station that commands a high premium to watch. I would need to spend an extra $15/month to acquire NBC Sports Network in my programming package, and I don't have the most basic package to begin with.

I would have no problem with the games being on a cable station that is available in all packages, much like ESPN is, but the fact that the games must reside on a premium cable station does a disservice to fans, who support the league and do actually care.

It's absolutely not true that the USA doesn't give a shit about hockey. Maybe in some of the sunbelt areas they don't, but still. Teams here do very well. The real problem is that NBC doesn't actually know how to run their fucking network well enough to figure out how to show a full sports league's games. That's why they lost out on every single other league when it comes to showing games. Theyre sports showing consists of focusing on getting the super bowl, or olympics, and that' it. anything else is a mere afterthought to them, as they focus on weekly primetime and their cable networks focusing around politics and finance. They get absolutely humped by Fox and ABC when it comes to showing sports on the whole.

There are lots of fans no doubt, but lets be real here, even when the games are on NBC, the overall viewership ratings are lower than reruns of shows.

If you are a network and you have your choice between running an 18 minute rerun of a show with 12 minutes of advertising space or a sporting event that will draw half the viewership and less advertising time, you are going to pick the reruns every time.

I promise you, 1000 people left that game early to beat traffic, or because they couldn't see the puck due to lack of foxtrax... That was the quietest game where the cup was in attendance I have ever seen...

Anyways... I'm just hoping this series lasts long enough for someone to make Justin Brown or Drew Doughboy's head bleed...

man that shit actually pisses me off. same with that guy up there saying 1500 dollars for a ticket.
i know thats the way shit works but its bullshit. on cbc anyway they keep cutting away showing all these celebs and stuff ll cool j. does ll cool j give a FUCK if the kings win?? maybe that night.
i bet there are kings fan (few) that would give their nut to be in LA game 4 with the cup in the building.
Same with when the flames made it to the finals. you get all the oil king pins at game 6 because they are the only people who can afford tickets.
meanwhile you got the die hards at home who would give their first born son to be at the game but cant afford 1500 dollars tickets. the guys at home swearing to himself when the other team enters the zone. having nervous breakdowns when his team gets a penalty. can't eat drink or hardly think he is so nervous.
meanwhile the guy at the game is having a lovely chat drinking his 9 dollar budweiser and doesn't even know who the assistant captains are.

I feel like even if it was dollar beer night, the coyotes would EASILY be the rowdiest stands in hockey.

Why go to the bars? just go to the yotes game drop down a hamilton (or a macdonald if a canadian team is in town) and drink till you actually howl..

okay. I said this in haste and in drunk...

EASILY the rowdiest might actually be pushing it. A lot. They'd just simply be the drunkest, therefore showing up in Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Nash jerseys and shit and leaving before the games over because that's when their ride leaves...

and now I just thought of something else. You know hockey in Arizona is a downright failure when the most famous canadian in Phoenix is a basketball player.

Soooo basically Glenfail has it's hands tied and needs a tenant, but has to shelve out like 80% of the costs? God damn, I just don't see this team staying in town even if this deal goes through. They better hope the Arizona Cardinals bring in enough money to subsidize all of this...
