Dying a helmet a different color?

Has anybody dyed their helmet? Did it chip? and how did you do it?

I have never dyed a helmet, but i imagine it would work. I dyed my goggles and they came out fine.

Depending on what kind of plastic it is you could use vinyl dye. It comes in a spray can and is usually sold at auto stores as a touch up for interior trim. So long as the plastic your hemet is made out of is porous it should work and I can guarantee it will not chip. Fading happens regardless.

I know this is fairly obvious, but the thing I would be most concerned about is affecting the integrity of the helmet. A lot of those paints can dissolve through the foam inside your helmet, so I'd make sure to do a really good job taping/blocking any vents so you don't get paint in there.

This is a great idea.... really though, don't do it. Not because its going to ruin your helm, but because its likely to look like some junk-yard dog stuff.

Just spray paint it. I did that and it worked just fine.

Ive never dyed my helmet but ive dyed my rollerblades and lost none of the integrity of the plastics and 2 years on the colour still stays, no chipping. so assuming helmets use a similarly strong plastic as to rb then dying its not gonna be a problem (dont know how well the dye would work with like a glossy finish helmet). I used Rit dye. its meant for dying fabrics so its non corrosive to plastic and the colour can take a beating.

helmets are not that expensive. just go out and buy the one you want in the color you want. they are under $100... if your helmet is over 3 years old its time for a new one anyways.

helmets are pretty expnsive when your 14 and have no money haha. and i just got my last year, i just want a different color and i thought spry painting or dying a different color would be alot cheaper than haveing to buy a new one
