Ok, here is how Canadians really feel. THIS IS THE ONLY....and i repeat, ONLY major sport this whole country loves. Hockey is religion in Canada. In the states there is no such thing. You love all different types of sports(baseball, football, basketball, etc). The only country i could think of that could relate to canada in this aspect is New Zealand with Rugby.
Now imagine not having a canadian team win the most important prize in the only sport that your nation cares for since 1993.
Not only that, but since then have that prize go to teams that can't even fill their seats for the FINALS of said series. Now compound that year after year, after year, after year.
Now have the specific instance of Vancouver's lose ( first team in the league, losing agaist a lower team in the east, 4 nothing shut out on the final game, the teams seeming lack of interest during the whole game, Bettman not letting another team in canada, etc).
All you need is one or two people in the crowd that don't even care about hockey, and just want to see the world burn, then you have a massive riot on your hands. This exact type of riot will happen everytime a canadian team goes to the final and loses untill the cup comes home.
To put it in perspective, imagine the Toronto blue jays win the world series in Boston ( not that it would ever happen). Do you think people would riot? If your american its just something you can't understand
I understand why and how this happened, but i don't condone it. The police schould have been better prepared for this exact type of riot before hand.
