Video vs Still tripod

Just a quick question.

Something I'm always wondering is this:

Why do 'video' tripods always have the five bars next to each other, and when extended go 1-2-2 (from low to high), whereas 'still' tripods don't. They just have the tubes.

It's not because they're beefier right?
Manfrotto tripods are supposed to carry 8kg (the 055 series anyway) and I've seen lots of 'video' tripods that can 'only' carry 6kg or something.

usually, but not always, the 5 bar design can hold more. but for a cheaper one that isn't the case all the time.

i think that if you go for a real quality beefy video tripod, they will hold up to much more than 6kg. The one that can only support up to 6kg are cheap ebay one

It's ironic because the second tripod you posted is more stable than the first.

The "beefier" leg designs are generally more stable, but that doesn't mean a poorly made set of legs with that design will inherently be more stable than a well made set of Gitzo legs.

In general though, video tripods need to be stable while force/movement is exerted on them. Still tripods just sit statically while the photographer presses a remote shutter. That is why still tripods are relatively cheap compared to video tripods.
