Just won a k-3 16mm camera on ebay!

I'm really excited to upgrade the camera to shoot super 16mm film and then get to use it! I know film can be expensive, but i'm still stoked none the less. Camera has an M42 screw mount too so I bought a 50 f2 russian prime for it as well as its fast zoom lens. Anyone else shoot film?

Also, there is no way you are going to be able to afford film costs. You are going a ridiculous amount of money just getting 5 mins worth of footage onto your computer. Like everyone else who, at one time, bought a shitty 16mm just because they thought film inherently was better than digital (myself included), you will realize it is not even remotely feasible and give up.

Also, I could've sold you a fully working K3 package for less.

Turns out I also won a Konvas 1KCP 35mm camera too. Ditching the k-3 for this bad boy! Also got a great deal on 6000 feet of film

each 100 feet is appx 66.6 seconds (16 frames per foot, 24 frames a second) so its about an hour and 6 minutes of film

Holy shitballs... That's a lot... You could buy 20 8GB SD cards from that. A lot more than just a measly hour, haha


How big of a package are we looking at here? I can imagine it's huge.

yeah its gonna be rather large said the person I talked to, but its SUCH a good deal. a 1000' roll (1/6th of the total im getting) goes for 630ish on b&h/kodak's website

yup, 35mm is usually what most cinema features are shot on, so they still make it. that being said its not as popular as it once was due to digital stepping in.

And I'd like to just shoot it for the hell of it and get it out of my system. I have a movie I want to film at some point so maybe i'll save it for that?

I'm a little worried that you aren't fully aware of the costs of shooting 35mm or even 16mm... Usually to buy 120 mins (or 10,800ft) of 35mm film it's $5,500 just for the film stock and another $3,780 to process and telecine it. Unless you have an insane deal on the stock as well as processing, I don't know if I would risk running that amount of cash through a camera that hasn't been fully checked out. I would spend a little bit more money and buy a 16mm bolex from a local camera store or university that has been checked out or at least used by someone you know, and shooting 16 will still be expensive but not nearly as much of an investment as 35.

I'm getting 6k feet of film for $250, and i'll probably only process a little bit of it (whatever I think comes out the best). I understand it can be a waste of money, but its something I love doing and think that its worth it

Recans and short ends from major productions are basically thrown out and are practically given away. I found a company besides this deal thats selling me some more for a bit more per foot than that deal
