it was a strange episode for sure but i can't say i'm convinced that it's a sign of things ending

I thought the episode was perfection. South Park has a way of making everyone feel like they are in on the joke. It wasn't the last episode, but it was the beginning of the end in my opinion. What a fucking run.

There are some great interviews on NPR that you should check out. A real insight into how the show is made and their mindset.

If South Park was edgy before, imaging what they will pull if they are not afraid of getting canceled.

Sharon's speech did seem awfully ominous.

Not really rumours, Matt and Trey have already said they are sick of making it, and they seem to be really into pursuing musicals and other art forms. I think this was just the first nail in the coffin. I'm guessing the don't want to continue after the last 7 episodes of this season, but I'm sure hose last 7 episodes will be amazing.

All the signs point to it. Remember how they referred to this season as "The year of the Fan"? I'd say its pretty much certain at this point that South Park won't be produced for much longer.

That ending made me really sad..

As for south park ending, I think its strength is that they keep using up to date stories and trends to make story lines. It only takes about 3 weeks to church out a show and its not reliant on a family experiencing misfortunes or adventures like the simpsons and family guy are. I think south park has a long way to go. Perhaps we all just got trolled....hard

pretty sure that was just implying that they're getting a divorce/separating. there's no way that that's the last episode.


and for those of you saying that SP has gone down hill, how have you not liked this season? i think i've seen every episode and found them all to be hilarious. SP is finally turning around a bit in my opinion. last weeks City Wok vs. City Sushi was absolutely hilarious.

Last week's episode was better than the others this season in my opinion, but I feel like the plots are getting, as Sharon said, more and more ridiculous. It feels like they're reaching too much to me.

the penis size one was absolutely hilarious to me, same with the canadian royal wedding episode. even the human centipad was pretty funny IMO.

Did nobody notice that Sharon referenced all of randy's obsessions, like the baseball fights or his cooking one? I kinda think that theyre trying to tie it all together so they can end it on a good note

I think everyone is missing the point. I'm pretty sure that the episode is about the cultural identity crisis we are currently going through in this time period called "The Tweens." Think about it. They highlighted DUB STEP music, Movies that kept getting re-made, the constant repetitiveness of society.

All the music the adults played was during similar time periods. The police were from an awkward post punk era, Bob Dylan is an identity crisis. Both were popular when culture was largely at an all time low.

As a society we're currently going through a similar phase. The economy is shit, moral is low, and creativity is at a standstill. Snap Back hats are coming back, everyone is dressing more and more androgynous, and our music is defined by a bunch of electronic beats, that have been around for ever. Dub step isn't new, and when did re-mixes become the primary form of expression?

South Park is merely commenting on the cultural low we're currently going through. These phases happen again and again, economic waves come and go, and until we find a new topic to obsess over we're stuck. It's the 70's all over again and South park is pointing that out.

The whole cynicism thing comes from the realization that we're lulling, and people are just running with it. It's that we're consuming and not creating. And until we snap out of it, well, everything is gonna be shitty.

another reason i disliked the episode was that it totally crucified stan for being cynical etc, then the whole episode turned out to be the biggest whinefest/downer ever. like i said, ive loved SP over the years but im glad to see it's gonna go soon, im pretty over their topical social commentary and wannabe profound satire

See I don't think it crucified Stan at all.

Stan had a sort of awakening from a cultural Zeitgeist. Think the real world after keanu reeves got pulled out of the matrix. It sucked.

Stan's "awakening" tuned him to the world as it probably is. Cursed after his view "Behind the Curtain" his new knowledge prevents him from functioning in society because he sees its flaws.

Imagine if you were the first of all your friends to find out that riding razor scooters is Stupid, and makes you look like a sissy. You're not going to scooter with your friends anymore, and you'll be alone until all your friends realize that riding scooters sucks too.

but it did, by making him the butt of the joke rather than those who were not being negative. the other 3 friends were supposed to be the "good guys" and you were supposed to laugh at stan and feel at odds with him when he would bitch and moan, then was like "oh i dont care im cool with whatever." stan wasn't portrayed as enlightened, the jokes were structured as to make the viewer see him as the one being a douche, not just his friends

holy fuck i'm analyzing south park. time to get back to work..

I thought the episode was better then some of their recent ones that's for sure!

Whether they end this season or whenever it's all good! South park is the shit either way. I'd also rather see them end the show while it's still watchable.

i am in agreement with most of the people who think this is commentary on it being the beginning of the end for south park. i've just never been so sad at the end of a SP episode.

having said that, don't say I didn't warn you that somehow we are all getting trolled hard.  there's a chance.  small, hard to imagine after that episode, but a chance nonetheless.  i've learned to not expect anything from matt and trey. the one thing that makes me think this is the way they used that ridiculous cliche of a song to close the episode out.

It’s also entirely possible we’re all reading far too much into this, or at the very least, that this “beginning of the end” could be drawn out over the course of seasons. Perhaps the show is being set up to evolve somewhat, as the kids grow up slightly and face new challenges and a slightly more cynical outlook on the world.-news

I was only 9 when this show first aired, definitely a little depressing. There's still so many older episodes I haven't seen, though. So even if it is ending, South Park will entertain me long after the series is over.

You raise a funny point.

At the same time though, what people are saying isn't just coming out of nowhere. The entire last like 5 minutes or so definitely have meaning, and it seems pretty blatant.

"I guess I just feel like I don't have much time left, and I want to enjoy it"- Randy Marsh. That seems like classic south park indication to me, where they say something, and in the context of whats happening in the episode it may not mean much but people watching are supposed to recognize that it means something else. Think of the Trapped in the Closet episode. "You gotta come out of the closet Tom. Nobody's gonna make fun of you. Just come out of the closet".

I think J0hn hit the nail on the head.
