so i bought my iphone of a friend, and was like fuck getting the plan im just going to use it as an ipod touch. like no 3g just wifi, and i just got a text saying that they added a data plan on to my bill.

wtf att, anyone know if there is a loop whole to not paying that $30 bucks a month?

you can't use a smartphone without paying for all of it's apps. unless you were to jailbreak it

im pretty sure you can just use it like any other prepaid phone? i have a 3gs and i use a prepaid simcard for talking n texting and it works normally

Not sure, but im guessing they will just charge you for how much data you use. Like pay as you go and you will get ripped off.

So buy a data plan or just keep only using it on wifi.

my iphone doesnt have a data plan. im saving an assload of cash.
go to the store and talk to them, tell them what u want.
take off the 3G

this is very interesting. it seems like people have a fifty fifty chance with this. i scored an iphone 3g and popped my normal plan(talk + text) sim card in. 5 months later i havent gotten any texts and according to my bill they are not charging me for data plan. my only advice would be to go into settings and turn off cell data along with 3g. this will make it so if u step outside of wifi your phone doesnt accidentally use data to update apps which does happen unless u disable it. and secondly i would wait for him to get his bill and see if they truly did add it. ive heard its illegal for them to add something without your permission. if they did go in and talk to them and maybe youll get lucky.


and i used to get a day and my battery actually improved since jailbreaking. in fact i would set my alarm and wake up to my phone having the same battery level as the night before. but a day or two ago my battery life plummeted. i am getting like 8-10 hours minimal use and it takes forever to charge. kinda pissing me off but whatev ive found iphone are very finicky

Im on it sparingly just like every hour or so check the email and facebook or google or wiki something. I rarely play games on mine so about two days or day and a half.

yeah same thing here.
i dont have 3g on or data roaming.
so im not even using cellular data.


but will att be pissed that im not using there plan, or will they be fine with it and take off the data plan?

that all comes down to how nice of a rep you get and the col thing is that if one says no nothing stops you from going to a diff store to talk to a diff rep. i think the whole thing is the biggest pile of shit. if im not using something why should i pay for it? but alas not everything makes sense just keep an eye on your bill
