Wake Skis!

Hey everyone, so i recently try'd out my new wakeskis behind my boat, not really good at them yet sorta hard to get used to compaired to normal waterskis. But once i got used to cruisin they were so fun!
I only can jump the wake right now. Looking for some tips and stuff on how to advance on them, tried to find tips but not too much about wake skis out there.
So if anyone wake skis throw out some pointer on anything cool, 360's, backflips, anything, more the better. Got all summer to learn!

i just got mine a few days ago to! THey are so much fun but i am still sketchy jumping the wake, any tips? And they are a lot different than regular skiing

Lucky, I want to get some pretty bad.  try a lincoln loop off the wake.  you can see forward the whole time and dont have to mess around with the rope.

Yeah i had that same problem at first, just gota find your balance point since there isnt too much tail to lean back on when you land or you slip out haha. what i do to jump the wake is i go as far out as i can then right away cut to the wake and pop off it abit., sorta hard to explain but i can sorta wakeboard good and i incoorperated some techniques from it

once you get comfortable jumping the wake, start with 1's. pretty self explanatory up until the landing - you'll want to make sure you're on the balls of your feet, and make sure you get your other hand back on the rope.

3's are a little harder because of the handle pass. if you don't want to mess with a handle pass, you can also wrap the rope and use that to help you spin. go on youtube and check out videos of freestyle jumping (off of ramps) and you should be able to get a good idea of what I mean.

once you've got these down, i'd say fronts are probably your next easiest trick. pretty self explanatory once again - cut hard, pop hard, flip, get that hand back on the rope so it doesn't slingshot out of your other hand.

gainers (backs) are kinda gnar to learn because digging tips sucks major cock. huck, tuck, and pray.

you throw them differently than on normal skis, once you get the motions theyre easy. pop, head/body turn/spot/whatever you want to call it to start your spin, hand holding the handle (rh spin, left hand) to the small of your back, keep your head to spotting your landing, other hand reaches back to grab the handle, grab handle, look forwards, the handle will finish the spin for you. focus on the handle pass

Yes, you can. You just need to be way more powered than with a board. Also the spot youre doing it needs to be a spot where you can start from the beach. Waterstarts are kinda tricky, and getting the skis on while youre swimming is impossible. Its fun though, exept pooping is hard as hell. Generally, its harder than kiting with a board, but its fun nomtheless

personally, i don't think that stereo wakeskis are any better or worse than HOs.  it's all just personal preference.  the stereo skis are a little longer, so if you're a bigger dude, then they will be a little more stable.  they're also flat underfoot, so they are a little more stable if you're a new rider.  although, this does make sliding boxes a little more easy because you have that flat part to slide on.

the HOs have a full tip to tail rocker, so they are super squirrelly and harder to ride if you aren't a strong skier.  it's also a little harder to slide a box because there isn't a flat part on the ski to lock on to the box.  however, they spin a lot easier because they're shorter and the full rocker makes surface turns a little easier to pull off.

really though, it's all just personal preference.  i've got HOs.  my homie has stereo skis.  I've ridden both, and both are solid sticks.  if you're a bigger dude, you'll probably want to go with the stereo setup.  if you're a little smaller, the HO's are super sick.

i've got a video of a roll to splat on a set of wakeskis in my profile, but I'm too lazy to post it up.  check it if interested.

Thanks! i got HO's with boots for 350 bucks cuz it was a good deal, i really wanted stereos, but since im abit smaller weight and not too tall it seems like i went with the right choice! thanks

just an update, got over the wake 180's down, working on 3's and somewhat got frontiesss. super stoked and stoked on wakeskiing, gona post up a vid end of season of my progression. anyone els got some sick stuff in their trick book they learnt this summer?

Wakeskiing sucks, buy a fucking wakeboard and thank me later. Wakeskiing is only mildly legit at the cable, so if you're riding behind a boat, you're just riding overpriced waterskis. Such a fucking waste of money. Sorry, OP.

Nah wakeskis look real legit...I've been waiting for someone to push it for a while now....I don't have a pair yet but have been wakeboarding a long time...best advice I can give ya is to jus start huckin shit...no joke....that's how I learned stuff on a wakeboard.....I mean it's water dude and your typically not goin all that fast....if you've got a good boat driver jus friggin throw whatever....over and over till ya figure out what works best for you....I know how tarded that sounds but honestly that's exactly how me and my friends learned....we started throwin flips like our third time out and jus kept tryin till we got it....kinda turned into a competition to see who could land em first....haha....but next spring I am def gettin a set of wakeskis.....so don't listen to anyone sayin it ain't legit.

i only payd 350 dollars for my wakeskis with boots... thats like half of what good wakeboards cost. whatever tho, i have fun on them, more then on my wakeboard.

This is what snowboarders said about freeskiers for the longest time, and they still say it. Don't you freeski? This would be the best way to ski off season and the best way to improve off season. Don't hate on it, you probably haven't even tried it.

wakeskiing is at MOST about as close to skiing as wakeboarding is to snowboarding, and if you have snowboarded and wakeboarded, the similarities pretty much end at the shape of the board

Yeah I have done both but I definately noticed a similarity between riding a snowboard and a wakeboard beyond the board shape. Spinning feels aimilar but popping feels different. But I honestly think that wakeskiing could help with progressing spins and even rails. It would be fun to try and I wouldnt hate on it unless u have tried it before
