Tent in carry-on bag?

he guys, i'm about to go up to minnesota for a couple of weeks, and would love to bring my tent, and not check a bag.

Does anyone have experience trying to bring a tent, with poles and stakes, in a carry-on bag?

I emailed the TSA, they said it was up to the screeners. Heard some other mixed stuff on the internet as well.

I doubt they'd allow stakes because, well they're stakes. But the poles and actual tent should be good as long as you can fit it in the overhead storage, But if you can't don't worry, have them check it from the plane, it's free. The TSA will have the final call however. Today, an agent yanked my bag and asked if I had a toiletry bag (which I did) and they had some prescription "liquids". fucking liquids rule damnit, but it's alright they didn't take them.

I brought a tent once.

They look funky on the x ray so it is likely that you will have to show them the stuff.

However, if you have like pointy ass thin stakes, don't bring them. Just get some where ever you are going. The rest is a non-issue.

you could always try and if they dont let you throw out the stakes and just buy some new cheap ones when you get there

Nice, I got to school (St. Olaf) out in MN. My uncle has a cabin on the boundary waters,and my roommate worked at Northern Tier up in Ely last summer. Have fun.

only problem i could see them having is with the steaks (lol) wost case scenario they confiscate the stakes. if you ask me air port security is an oxymoron

put your laptop in your bag and throw whatever you don't need in your bag into your check-in luggage or your ski bag.

take a backpack and throw your boots over your shoulder. works on any airline. you're allowed a carry on and a personal item that can fit under the seat in front of you.

yea. my guess is the stakes would be an issue..

if its small enough to be a carry on, i dont think it would cost too much to ship it up there via mail..

the boots go in the overhead and the backpack goes under the seat in front of you WITH the fucking laptop in it. Unless its some enormous mountaineering backpack it will fit under the seat. hell, i had my boots in my backpack WITH my laptop and all that shit fit under the seat in front of me. This isn't rocket science man, come on...

hurr, i have a laptop, boots, and a backpack, what the fuck do i doooo? maybe... i dunno... put the laptop in the backpack... OMG WHAT A CRAZY IDEA!!!

I always take my boot son the plane but I have a big rossignol backpack which fits my boots, laptops and whatever else I need. However you should be able to carry the three pieces on. Just try and board early and put whatever you need in the overhead. Try not to wear them through security if they don't let you take them because they tend not to let you.
