pretend there is a wall in front of you when you go off the jump, and put your feet on it.
I would tell him to think like he's going over a jump on skis, start the spin but instead of looking directly over your shoulder look to where your left heel piece would be (if your spinning to the left) this helped me a ton. Also to get over the fear of initiating the cork tell him to do some 3's but land on his back, this should help make if more comfortable with the trick.....hope that helps
For me i just land like you would a normal backdrop, if you u just get a minimal amount of bounce and set it like i said before but expect to land on your back it should help you overcome the fear, or at least it did for me
