I'm going to college next year as a media major and I'm getting a fancy ass macbook pro and the editing software that my college requires but I also want to get a great SLR for video. Through my research is seems like the best bang for my buck is the t2i, is that still the case?

Yeah, the 60d has a few extra features that may interest you, do some research and figure out whats best for you.
