To put it bluntly i am sick of my t2i. It was cool for about three months and then i started to miss the usability of my hv20.

Dont get me wrong the t2i was awesome but now i am realizing i should of bought a camera that is geared more towards heaving filming as opposed to picture taking with a video option.

i want more control over my camera...more fine tuning options. I want to go back to a straight up video camera but i have no idea where to look. What companies and what models? whats good, whats not?

I will most likely be selling my t2i and lenses. i am selling my car as well. i will have anywhere from 1500-2500 to spend.

Im sorry to make a thread on this but the how to buy a camera wasn't helping me.

Used HPX170. Amazing fucking camera, and for that price you can't go wrong. It's everything the HVX is supposed to be, and it has a ton of "video camera" features. The p2 workflow is also awesome, pricy? yes but still really great, I'm loving it. Thats why I recommend it over the AVCHD HMC150, another good camera.

it has been magic lanterned but the files were deleted of the cards so its running stock programing right now

sigma 10-20
canon 50mm
the stock18-55.
2 16g class 10 cards
5 batteris

Possibly
glidecam 2000 pro(to upgrade to an hd)
rode video mic

just out of curiosity, what fine tuning could you do with an hv20 that you couldn't with a T2i? i know nothing about an hv20 so i am honestly asking

will-haha there weren't a lot fine tuning options with the hv20 but looking at newer video cameras i am jealous of the kind of direct control you have over your camera. I dont enjoy doing oll of my aperture/iso/shutter speed changes by holding one button and moving other. The user interface is obviously geard towards picture taking and it makes filming difficult. im also looking for a video quality upgrade. Its hard to explain to be honest. i hope that made some sense.

Its a nice camera too, but you can almost get hvx's for cheaper. its basically an hvx with a few different features and uses SD cards.

alrighty. can someone tell me a good place to learn about the p2 work flow? i am completely unfamiliar with it.
I am leaning words the 170 as of now, only the price of cards is scaring me.

Its similar to others, log and transfer with final cut pro and you get dvcprohd .mov files which you can change to prores if you want. The cards are expensive, but if you buy my hvx it comes with a 32gb card which is more than enough room to record onto :)

Does that stand true even if you are going to use an external recorder? I am thinking about getting an hvx or an hmc

hvx is dvcprohd 422 while hmc is avchd 420. You could use one with the hmc and hdmi, but i dont know why, if you're using an external recorder you're probably gonna want something different than the hmc.

definitely get the HVX and fuck an external recorder. The DVCproHD codec is boss, great colors, and wouldn't be that much of an improvement over something like prores. Recorders are pointless if you are using HDMI for it, HD-SDI is the only signal worth recording

Honestly, Lumix GH2. It's more of a video camera than a still camera. If I had no intention of shooting wide, I would trade my 7D for a GH2 in a heartbeat. Actually, I have been contemplating buying one just for the 2x crop factor.
