Skis that tip and tail are like a box

Was are those skis were like the tips and tail are like a box instead of an acual tip and tail idk its confusing there rockerd and i think a powder ski +K for answers

You might search for the Moment Rocker. Its a very good All-Mountain ski.

not sure... but i think its (besides looking cool) to spread out the impact if you crash your tip or tail into anything. That way, all the force is spread out along that whole flat part, instead of all the force going into one single point on a curved tip. Helps prevent delams.

I wouldn't think so... I think its just a design to make their product unique...

A curve is far more structurally strong, as weight is distributed evenly across the whole curve, instead of being concentrated on corners (of a square object)

It's functional. Tips on your tails or tail rocker is the most ridiculous thing for big mountain charging. Just decreases stability.

then what is the function of squared tips?

part2:
function of tailrocker on pow skis=> going switch in powder, tailrocker is usually reduced on stiff big mountain charging skis....
function of twintips on charging skis => tricky situations that require sideslipping or backing up switch make twintips extremely useful, even in big mountain scenarios where you don't ski switch....


and just how would twintips reduce stability ? tailrocker on a charging ski i somewhat understand, but twintips?

I disagree. We have tail rocker on the Cease and Desist and that thing straightlines like a motherfucker. If you're skiing on hardpack, something like a Wren does rule, but if I'm in Alaska heli-skiing and theres 6 inches or more of fresh, Cease and Desist all the way.

I dont think this stereotype exists without reason though, and I cant argue with the simple mechanics of rockered skis - it decreases the running length and lessens stability, but in return gives you pivot-ability. I think if the ski is designed well, you can get a rockered tail to perform close to a non-rockered tail in terms of stability in soft snow. The advantages of a rockered tail are also features I sorta prefer over stability anyways, such as the ability to smear out turns and dump speed very quickly if you suddenly run into something gnarly.

And even though we did cut the Wren's full twin off this year, the full twin on a ski with that much running length is unarguably great for one reason - massive rooster tails!

false, round tips help prevent de-lam. with square tips you are more likely to get delam on the tip/tail

No, on Moment's there is no edge around the tips and tails so that helps prevent delam.

im talking about top sheet delam, edges have nothing to do with that. think about it, if you run into something dead on with a square tip then the force has to go somewhere... versus with round tips the ski can turn off the tip

just thought about 1 little advantage of squared tips: skins, skins with a straight clip at the back can perfectly attach to a squared tip while otherwise you'd need to mod them or get another sort of clip

I've actually been pitched a pretty valid sounding argument for Moment's square tips and its ability to protect from additional edge damage. Because edges are large strips of metal, a large impact anywhere on that strip of metal will make the entire edge weak and brittle. For example, a full, single edge that goes all the way around the ski can become extremely weak and susceptible to further extensive damage under foot if you run into something like a tree or a rail support with the tip. Because moments have square tip and no metal edge in the tip, if you hit your ski against either of those two things, it won't weaken your edge as a whole.

so.... the advantage would be that there's no metal edge all the way around the tip.... being square or not has nothing to do with it... (i know there are some round tip skis without edge in the tip aswell, altough i cant remember which ones....)

i personally think that a round tip would be structurally speaking, stronger and would deflect impacts more easily, but the squared tip just looks baller and i doubt the structural differences would way up against the cool/different looks of it which kinda are a trademark of moment....

yeah I wasn't completely sure on that... i just heard it around somewhere and it made sense. I guess it would only work if you hit something PERFECTLY head on, otherwise no difference.
