Need some serious help here

Alright so my big final paper for my english class this year (due tomorrow) is a research paper in which we had to create a thesis that had something to do with a controversial or at least somewhat current topic and defend it. mine was
"companiess have a responsibility to promote and conduct their business with environmental consciousness"

then, just to throw a screwball, our teacher said ok your research paper is now to argue against your original thesis. so i need to write a research paper on why companies have no environmental responsibilities.

all i have thought of so far is discussing free capitalism and how government regulation over that sort of thing would be taking that away.

so PLEASE if you can think of any evidence/discussion i could go into about how companies dont need to be environmentally conscious please leave it here.

+K to anyone who has good info or who makes me laugh because im stressin

Wow that teacher is a dick/bitch. Something you could mention are those carbon credits that are being traded/sold by companies, it doesnt exactly pertain to your thesis but im sure you could throw it in there.
You should mention how certain companies, for example wind turbine makers, wouldnt be able to produce as much if they cut down, and that the products they make override the fact that they're polluting. Thats a hard thesis to rebut haha

well that was shorter than the original. i went a little more into corporate social responsibility standards and shit. and when i asked my teacher he gave me the douche answer of "however many you need to make a strong case" i can think of things like why make a corporation sacrifice profit for environmantal impact and shareholder agreement and stuff. i just dont know where to get any backing evidence or anything about that

I would say to not say why they don't need to not respect the environment, but i'd put it like this: why is the governement regulation useless. Like how they arent acculy killing the planet, i might be easyer.

You could argue that profit incentive encourages companies to exploit undeveloed nations, inevitably causing environmental damage. Consumers generally search for the most inexpensive goods, so nobody holds the corporations accountable to what they do as long as they pay less. They shouldn't have to be environmentally conscious because nobody really wants them to be.

i have a related issue, my history essay was due on friday.
my topic was 1980s technology. i have a bunch of research done but i still have no thesis statement and it has to be done in either APA format or chicago style, im mostly just lazy. any ideas?

Another idea is to say that businesses are there to make money, and the government is there to protect people/environment, and that the govt should offer incentives for good practice to compensate for the companies loss, because being environmentally friendly isnt cost effective.
Its sort of an asshole's approach, but you could say that businesses need to mind their own interests and maximize wealth, otherwise foreign corporations who dont give a shit about the environment will push past the U.S's businesses.
