...constantly thinking about filming and editing nowadays. I'll be sitting in class listening to my iPod, have a random song come on, and just replay it and replay it thinking about cinematography, editing, cutting, the whole deal. I'm starting to dream in filmmaker-esque type styles, and it's weird. I love it though, it's like my mind is a constantly running cinema that just keeps going, and I can make it whatever I want. I am starting to think about all of my upcoming film projects even though they are monthes away. Does anyone feel me on this one?

I feel the same way man, Whenever I hear a song I always think about it fitting into to some kind of edit.

Yea haha! And the other day I figured out that if you are a bit near/far sighted it means that you cant focus your eye at that length

The f-number of the human eye varies from about f/8.3 in a very brightly lit place to about f/2.1 in the dark. The presented maximum f-number has been questioned,as it seems to only match the focal length that assumes outgoing light rays.According to the incoming rays of light (what we actually see), the focal length of the eye is a bit longer, resulting in maximum f-number of f/3.2.

I like this thread. I always play with focusing my eyes. Sometimes I'll close one eye so it has that single lens look, then I forget that I'm sitting there staring at random things with one eye closed... Kind of an awkward position.


As far as aperture I've got to imagine that on the small side of things our iris's can close a fair amount. It's the only way we can control the amount of light we're perceiving (I think) so it should have a relatively large spectrum. Not sure how wide it can get, but we live in some seriously bright environments where an extremely tiny f/stop would be necessary.

This is sick, I can't join you in camera talk, but I do play with my eyes. it's fun to try with different perspectives and squint/close on eye.

As for music I'm constantly thinking about what type of edit a certain song would go into. I love this stuff.

Well if you think about it, our eyes are one of the best lenses around. Specifically a prime, but our white balance is good, we are almost always perfectly exposed, our aperture varies all the time, and our mind is the limit for photos and videos. It's a perfect, non distorted, self adjusting lens.

Eyes are very interesting, even tho 50mm are suppose to be similar, there is no lens like the human eye.

Transplant eyes to cameras!?! most epic lens ever???

and the dynamic range of the brain/eye is ridiculous.


also it's interesting that you said that 'we are almost always perfectly exposed.' i agree, but it's weird because all perfectly exposed really means is that it matches what our eyes sees, or is at least presented in a way that is pleasing and seems natural to the eye.

Not even gonna try to discuss "how" the brain interprets color and images. What if "red" to one person could be "green" to another person but its their "red" or their "green" could be "red" to someone else, but they still think of it as "green". My mind explodes when i think about that shit.

definitely some high level thinking going on here. whenever i edit right before i go to sleep, all i can think about is what i have to do to make the edit better. it's great because i often get some new ideas, but the downside is that i can't sleep.

yeah i agree on the op. i have a playlist on my itunes called ''edit'' ...so once i hear a song i like and think i can use, i just put it in the playlist. comes in handy.

i've done a lot of thinking about this and i got the idea that instead of colors randomly being different for each person, instead it's like each person's color has a different reference point on the color spectrum. so it's all the same relatively but the point on the spectrum where navy blue is for one person might be where baby blue for another, so it just kinda shifts around instead of PURPLE IS GREEN, RED IS BLUE, TEAL IS ORANGE

it makes more sense if you've seen one of those spectrometer or whatever things are that separate light

there wouldn't be megapixels, since we don't see in pixels. If it was to be converted to digital, we could in theory have as many megapixels as we would want

I do this constantly and I honestly haven't done any real filming ever before. I only realized recently how much I do this especially with songs. As I here them I will picture movie scenes that I could create to go with them. It has had such a profound impact on me lately that I'm actually majoring in documentary style film for in college.
